Radio Shack Buyers Guide: Price fluctuations & Best time to buy?
One thing is certain, you can never really have enough. They are like rabbits and multiply, so all that remains is knowing a little about how RS operates their sales and promotions to get the most bang/boom out of your buck. The same question could and should be asked on the other boards about Uniden and other brands, but it looks like they'll always be priced out of reach, so I'll have to stick with bargain basement RS for now, unless they'll equalize prices on similar items. Then I'd opt for the most rugged and waterproof item.
Two questions dealing with pricing trends and best time to buy
Concerning Radio Shack scanners, what have been the historical pricing fluctuations and trends? When a new scanner comes out, will it be on sale for a short promotion, then only to revert to its high list price for much of the year or a slightly lower in-store price until Black Friday? Having missed the Black Friday sales, just what other special sales and promotions by Radio Shack are there throughout the year on new items, or was that BF sale the last? So if we time everything right, we have a possible savings of $150 on just one purchase, enough saved to buy more.
Looking at Pro-94, Pro-95 and Pro-96 scanners and their base versions in addition to newer models as they become available. If there is a conventional easy to understand formula to it all, Newbie is trying to ascertain what is the best time to buy?
There is the
(1) List Price as shown on their web site. e.g., $499 for Pro-96
(2) Then the in-store price. e.g., $399 for Pro-96
(3) Finally there is/was the special promotion price, e.g., Black Friday. e.g., $349 for Pro-96
(4) Maybe even meet me by the docks after midnight price
The Pro-96 is currently selling for $399 in store and the Pro-95 at $149 in store. Not sure of Pro-94's in store price. For those familiar with RS pricing trends, are there any additional scheduled or likely sales in the near future that will bring these prices down, or are they likely to stay the same over many months or a year?
Instead of spending $149 on the Pro-95 now, if there is another upcoming sale, perhaps it would be better to save that amount and allocate it towards the purchase of another Pro-96 at the $399 price or wait till a price drop? Also, if the Pro-95 is going to have another significant price drop in the near term, perhaps it's better to wait till then. Newer models are over the horizon. Perhaps that once a year best time to buy sale is just around the corner.
