I am looking at putting a RS discone ,20-043,up in the attic, wife won't let me mount it outside. I would like to know what you guys think about this antenna and what is the overall height of it.

Thanks,
Robert

I'm here a lot
It does a good job and should last forever in the attic. It stands about
four feet high (hope your attic can accomodate it)

Thanks a lot. I had read several posts about the poor quality on some of RS discones and just wanted to know if it would do a good job in the attic. I guess I will have to get up there and see if I have enough room. Right now I am using a RS 20-032 mag mount on the window seal, I hope to see a decent improvement.

Robert,

I just bought a Diamond D-130J (pretty similar to the RS 20-043). I also replaced a RS 20-032 Mobile Magnetic Mount that was on my filing cabinet near the front window.

I put the new discone together and set it up in the attic for now (3rd floor -- my house is on a huge hill in town overlooking everything). I can't believe how much more scanning action I am getting. I am getting FD calls from towns/cities over 50 miles from here. The local stuff is so much stronger and clearer. I am going to have to replan my frequency strategy...the more I add, the more I hear. Gets a little confusing listening to 30 different FD's! Who knows what the warm weather and the move to the outside will bring!

Depending upon your area and the "lay of the land", you should definitely see a huge improvement over the 20-032. It is still amazing me every minute.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have what is probably its precursor in my attic. No problems, much better reception.
Use good coax and put it up as high as you can.

Since I'm using 4 scanners, I'm using a cable amp/splitter, which gives me a bit of gain.

lefty,

Ever thought about using a multicoupler?

Robert

aren't they roughly equivalent to what I'm using?
X number of ports, either passive or active?

The ones some friends recommended (Stridesburg?) were hideously expensive. Granted, I never got to A/B them, but for about $7 I can feed 4 scanners.
