Is the Pro-160 NFM capable? In the spec's it lists a frequency range for "FM" and another for "WFM". Since this scanner is new enough to handle the 800MHz rebanding, I thought it would be able to handle Narrow band FM.

yes it can support NFM, if you look in the mode search section au, fm, NFM. if the station is lower in audio you may have to switch the mode to NFM.
I use the BuTel software ARC-160 and it doesn't have a mode selection. I looked in the scanner instruction book and it doesn't mention a manual way to set the mode. The frequency I have been monitoring is 153.7850. How, from the scanner itself would I set that to be NFM ?
Audio level is fine, is just sounding as if it were a distant station with interfernce.

first you go to the frequency you want, then you press program, current, then in the expert mode go to modulation, which is the first selection. to get to the expert mode just press the down button until you see *expert mode*
Wrong scanner. The OP is asking about the 160, not the 106.
PCTEK - No, the 160 does not have an NFM mode. It's straight FM all the way. It also won't tune to any of the newer 7.5 kHz steps on VHF, so for example 158.8425 goes in as 158.845.

The Pro-160 mobile / base, just like it's portable cousin the Pro-162, does NOT let you change receive modes. It is what it is, that's it! You get no choice in the matter. Sucks, I know. Sorry! That's one of the reasons why I sold mine...

Thanks. I thought I was just blind since I couldn't see the menu options KB1UAM was referring to. Ok, so now that I recently purchased another Pro-160 from eBay, I now know it doesn't support NFM.. This makes me ask.. the Pro-160 will receive VHF in two modes... FM and WFM. This made me think that the FM would be NFM.. probably no such luck.
So, will I still be able to hear the agency when they switch from "FM" to Narrow FM? When is the mandatory switch over date to NFM?
