I just picked up a used RS Pro-94A (No PC/IF) from Ebay. After clearing the memory (resetting) I cannot select a "trunking type" (i.e. EDACS). Following the manual and/or the RR simple guide yields the same result - I cannot select the type of trunking system that I want to follow.

Press "MAN" then
Press "PROG" then
Press "Trunk" then
Select Bank "1" then E
*** Here is where the issues starts***
After this I am supposed to select the trunk type that I want to follow, however the scanner skips this option and moves directly to the step where I enter the freqs.

Any idea what is wrong?

Also, I cannot access the preset search bands (i.e. air, ham, marine), but I can access the preset weather channels

Other than this the scanner works fine :), I mean it picks up freqs when I manually enter them.

Thanks in advance

Downloaded a copy of the manual (pdf) and followed you up until

"then E"

The manual I downloaded indicates you should press a "dark triangle up" or a "dark triangle down" button after pressing the "1".

I don't see an "E" press near this step in the operation.

Maybe helps, maybe not., good luck!

Thanks for help rwier. You are correct - I am supposed to press a "dark triangle up" or a "dark triangle down" button after pressing the "1"..... then press "E".

This, however, is where I have start having the problem. When I press the "dark triangle up" or the "dark triangle down" buttons I receive an "ERROR" on the screen.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are the directions that I am trying to follow - they are from the Pro-94 manual on the RS website.

1. Press PROG then TRUNK. TRUNK appears and one or more bank numbers flash.

2. Press the number key (1–10) of the desired target storage bank. Select one of the trunk systems by repeatedly pressing "dark triangle up" or "dark triangle up" to select a trunking system type, then press E (SVC). The scanner then automatically selects the first channel in the selected bank.
Note: You can select from the following six systems

3. Use the number keys to enter a valid frequency within the trunk system, then press E (SVC). BANK
and the bank number, the channel number, and E (EDACS) or M (Motorola) appears depending upon the trunk system selected.

4. Press either PROG or "dark triangle up" to select the next channel in the bank.

5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until you enter all desired frequencies in that bank.

6. Press SRC to begin searching for the trunk’s data channel (the channel that controls the trunk). SEARCH flashes as the scanner searches for the data channel. As the scanner looks through the frequencies, you see them on the display. When the scanner finds the controlling data channel, the scanner begins trunking.

I've done 3 of these, and I'm wondering if you aren't hitting PROG then TRUNK first; selecting the 1 and hitting E will invariably generate an 'ERROR'....

The old BC245 and the 94 are very similar; the trunking FAQ might help...

The BC245 Trunking FAQ - the RR Wiki

Keep in mind that this scanner cannot handle any digital systems - in most cases, if you're trying to program a Motorola system, you will want to select 'E2-800' (if it's an 800 mhz system) as the type. If it's something else, go up to the database and let's see the URLs for the system. Also keep in mind you will need to program all the channels, not just the ones in blue/red.

best regards..Mike

*Update*

I have tried all the options in the suggested links and this dang thing will not letting me select a "trunked" system :(

However, I have a some what related question.

How many versions of the RS Pro-94 are there?
1. Pro-94, 2. Pro-94 A, 3. Pro-94 B - Is this correct?

After looking at the manual again I noticed a drawling of what the LCD should look like if the entire LCD was "on" (as if it were showing me all the setting available) and my screen does not look like the one that is in the manual.

Is it possible that first edition Pro-94 would be programmed via a different key sequence?

Thoughts?

Insofar as the model numbers are concerned - yes there were 3 versions. I say 'were' because this is a very old scanner. Beyond any user errors, if there's something wrong, it's probably not worth fixing it.

Become familiar with the system(s) in your area, and start saving for a new scanner. best regards...Mike

[edit] Just looking at the 3 major public safety systems in the Austin area, the 94 series wouldn't copy them anyway - they're P25. I'd go down to the Texas forum and start asking questions about the scanner(s) that seem to work well in that area
