11/27 Followup - see my post below. I got a Pro-97 discounted with the "Friends & Family 30% Discount Coupon" (which I asked for at the counter) for $104.99 plus tax!!!! So, yes, it is true!!

I went by my local Radio Shack and called others in the area and the only thing they had on sale was the PRO-528 for $99. They had no other scanners on Sale. They were not corporate store, so maybe the sales are only at the corporate stores.

Can you use the friends and family coupon for the total price or does it have to be used for only one item? It might be worth getting a 96 and a 2096 if they would let you.

Limit one coupon per person, limit 5 of the same item per ticket, and I *think* the coupon must be surrendered when used.
Things like Ipods, and LCDs, employees don't get discounts on, so neither do the friends and family. For sale priced, and clearance items, you still get a discount on.

Picked up a Pro 97 on sell this morning as a Christmas present for myself. Loving the signal stalker feature. A good addition to my shack (AR8200 Mk2, Pro 95 with disc out, Kenwood THG71A). Awesome scanner, but I wish it has an S-Meter for reference (a feature I love on my aor reciever.). Get out there and get those deals guys. My RS only had on unit in stock

That is true about the franchise vs the company owned or mall stores, not everything including scanners is in stock. I checked yesterday at a franchise and the only scanner on sale was the 528. Didn't have any 97's there but when I checked last month they were available then.

Well, refurbished, meaning factory repaired for a defect off the line. Not unlike going to Radio Shack and getting a returned radio that someone didn't want because it wasn't the latest firmware/datecode.

The clerk said "excuse me for just a second" and went and spoke with another salesman. He came back, looked in a file, and pulled out a sheet of coupons and proceeded to clip out the 30% coupon. He then scanned it and rung me up for $149.99 les 30% discount, plus tax for a sale of $104.99 plus tax. I made a fool of myself thanking him, but he seemed to appreciate it. WHAT A DEAL!!!! I am a happy customer!! :lol:

Yeah, they probably have them somewhere. I asked locally and the clerk asked the asst mgr who said "they're for friends and family of employees" It's really up to them to capture my business if they so desire and I don't feel like entering a wheelborow contest to do it. But I can tell some of the stores are hurting for business and yes, they have turned off the "what kind of cell phone do you have?" speil. One person told me the $69 weather alert radio might be $49 bucks in a couple of weeks so maybe a bigger sale is in the offing.

Yes, it does look like the PRO 96/2096 went off sale early, both in store, and online.

The PRO 97/2055 is still on sale through the 9th.
