You can find those type cases all over EBay in various sizes. Search for aluminum enclosures or extruded aluminum enclosures

Not sure why you would. I've only used the factory cases on the RSP2pro and RSPdx. Are there reports of overheating or RFI?

You could line a plastic case with copper tape if you have some laying around. Your biggest ingress will be through the antenna, so filters should be considered. A USB cable with ferrite beads should also be considered.

* First try some aluminum foil around your SP1A and see if it makes a difference with it on/off.

Yes, you can, but they don't have the specialized and neatly cut out holes in the exact spots and all the included hardware for a professional appearance.

Sounds like a good winter project. All you need is a template and a Dremel. It’s an option if the original cases are unavailable.

Overheating? Not that I'm aware of. Those two models come with metal cases, the RSP1A has an inexpensive looking plastic case, presumably to save on production costs, making it more affordable.

Yeah, I knew those came with metal cases, but wasn't sure why you were looking into it.

Sweet! But, I'll be picky and say it's not a power cord; it's a data cable that supplies power.

That is an accurate description. I'm temporarily using a short data cable that supplies power and a tiny antenna, pretty much VHF only. At this point I'm getting used to a new way of doing things, especially scanning.
