I have your average 30 point or so VHF/UHF antenna on my roof to get my local digital over-the-air channels for the TV. Would this be alright to use for my scanner as well.

All I would need is a F-type connector to BNC adapter? Any tips and tricks to get this to "adapt" to my scanner? Thank you.

If you are talking about a typical TV Log Periodic antenna it will work very well for a scanner. These antennas are designed to be semi-directional and very wide band.

Hey, i did get that BNC adapter. Wow what an improvement in reception. I'm able to pull in stuff across 5 counties, including tons of aircraft. Thank you :)

Any chance we could have a look as to what you are talking about? Please post a pic. Thanks in advance.

The largest elements have suffered some wind damage I see.. that antenna doesn't look too old though.

If you wanted to experiment you could rotate the antenna 90 degrees so that the elements are vertical; most terrestial based comms are vertically polarized. Of course if you're happy with what you've got there's no need to do anything!:D

Actually that's heat damage. The pole the antenna is mounted on used to be much, much shorter.. and the heat coming out of the chimney melted the plastic molding that snapped the antenna elements in place. I bought a new PVC pipe and raised it 10 feet to accomodate the heat issue, as well as get better reception from being higher up. It was a win-win.

Yeah the antenna is ruined but seeing as it still works pretty well I have no reason to change it until I encounter a problem with the reception.

I also use this antenna to receive digital over-the-air tv programming and it is aimed specifically for best digital TV reception. That takes priority over the scan reception. It's still pretty good for scanning however :)
