Came across a headline that the Rusk County Board approved radio system upgrade from a GENCOMM proposal. I looked around an found the GENCOMM proposal. The proposal is very detailed, but they summed it as: "We are proposing a Tait simulcast system which is currently being used in your area by Washburn County and Chippewa County. In addition, we are installing a new Tait system in Barron County in 2024 as well as Sawyer County in 2025".

If I understand the details - staying analog but interfacing with P25?

As far as I know, Chippewa county is not simulcast. When I'm down in the Eau Claire area, I constantly hear differing signal levels between repeaters which suggests a standalone site system. I also don't hear the CTCSS buzzing and other scratchy noises breaking into the voice as is typical with analog simulcast systems when outside the intended coverage area.

The upgrade should be nice for Rusk, however. Especially for portable coverage. I've been through there with my scanner before and it is a nightmare trying to listen to their ultra quiet analog system, especially when it's staticy. Some of the guys on digital are very loud and when they come through it just about blows you out of your chair in comparison to what the analog can do. I just hope they stay free from E.

Interesting that they say that Sawyer is going with Tait in 2025 as they currently are on WISCOM.

Not the expert but why wouldn't the state do a better job of marketing WISCOM to these counties upgrading their radio systems? That should be an option as well you would think. Taylor, Dunn, Bayfield, Douglas & Sawyer currently on WISCOM in the NW part of WI. But reviewing the county board notes I didn't see where joining WISCOM was presented as an option.

As previously stated...as long as they stay away from the dreaded E.

As an end user, the Washburn system works fairly well. Granted there's been a few bugs to work out, but overall it is a drastic improvement in coverage over the previous system. Big bonus, one channel/frequency for the whole county, which created space for new channels in the radio fleetmaps.
