S/F on 3760 wheeling

Aurora was first on scene of a reporting S/F. They told dispatch that it was in Denvers Area. Aurora said that there were just transformers on fire outside a trailer that was attached to a large warehouse.

Denver was dispatched to the scene.

All hell broke out. Fire is now in the warehouse. 30 min into the incendent

Both Aurora and Denver are fighting the fire and neither are talking to eachother

Aurora is on Tac 2
Denver is on Dist FG5

Both companies are reporting that fire is knocked and asking for the sprinklers to be shut off and to start venting.

Aurora's radios were great while Denver sounded like crap. I wish I had recorded it. Denver had to repeat their selves so much...

I just can't understand why those 2 can't communicate! Several times each agency was asking the progress of the other one, and did no one think to get together at the command post and stand next to each other with their radios? Don't these guys have a patch, or did that come down when Aurora changed to the ProVoice? I also thought that everyone in the state was supposed to have the MAC channels available as well??? Could you imagine if there was a mayday on the channel! I think it's a shame what goes on. At FRI there were several vendors that sold relatively cheap interface devices that anyone of the command vehicles could carry and interface even a portable into to get them to patch. Oh...if I were a Chief. But then again!

At the end, they finally started talking at the command post. They do not like to play with each other. Heck, at a car accident they fight over who should be in charge. I don't know for the life of me why they don't have special Mutual Aid Groups in their radios so they can work an incident together. It would be so easy to do. Heck, I’ll show them how! Aurora and Denver both need to figure out that their job is to SERVE THE PEOPLE. They need to grow up, train together, and work to be ONE TEAM!

It's not a matter of the technology being available it's more so a matter of politics and what is the fire service motto something like "100 years of tradition impeded by progress"? It't not a matter of the radios systems abilities or lack of, there are many more deep seated problems than that.

Don't even get me started on the immense problems at the "combined" Denver/Aurora command post at Lowry. It's not appropriate for a public forum.

Well.....after several times of erasing and starting over trying not to ramble on my soap box, it needs to be fixed, period. I could care less who likes who and who doesn't. If I were on that fire from either agency, I would feel in danger for my life! There was a full first alarm assignment working with another full first alarm assignment that could have very easily done something to the other one that could have gotten someone very hurt or very dead. And it all boiled down to lack of communication. Read the NIST, NIOSH, and IAFF LODD reports and in almost every one it says LACK OF COMMUNICATION was the biggest issue. From there, everything else went wrong. I know I said I wouldn't go on my soap box, but with all the info we have as FFs and near miss reporting systems, to overlook interoperational communication boarders incompetent on a level that is way above me. I have to wonder how someone could sleep with themselves after knowing that a lack of communication killed or injured one of their guys....it's only a matter of time. They've been lucky so far.

I believe the biggest killer of firefighters is Cardiac; Travis but I completely agree with you otherwise.
