With all the skip this morning i'm picking up a NXDN signal on 462.225. It's too weak to decode.

It looks like I need to set up a laptop and go for a drive.

No kidding, I picked up George West on 461.075 from Asherton yesterday but couldn’t get the Faith Ranch site 20 Miles away.

With all the skip this morning i'm picking up a NXDN signal on 462.225. It's too weak to decode.

Several of my scanners were going wild and acting up as well and got me investigating system changes.
I picked up NXDN on 462.225 which also belongs to Industrial Comm NE LTR as LCN#11 an overflow CH.
I tuned to 461.5125 to check any decode of 303-12 in Kenedy - Karnes Co but it was not the active cc.
Also like Paul said, local signals that I should be able to decode well were either washed out or week !

The skip was so strong that with the LTR AutoMove / AutoPlace features enabled on all my scanners,
I found in the early hours this morning that many LCN's were erroneously placed in other wrong positions.
Ha I'm in full damage control now checking all my scanners for proper system frequency configurations.

Also I had DMR on 464.975 that crazy enough belongs on both Airwave NE LTR#7 & Airwave LS LTR#20.

I just heard the NIOSA management staff relay out over their IC-DT LTR TG's to batten down the hatches
as their SAPD NIOSA officer shared a severe Thunderstorm Warning with 50 MPH winds from 3pm~6pm.

One more thing to confirm: was the VC 464.6500 that you head for site 2 channel 977 (one I have seen on neighbors) or 979? It lines up with 977 on my band plan also so I wanted to double check.

You are correct it should have been channel 977.

Cool, I’ll add it to the database. I need to catch three different secondary control channels now when I head down there on the way, 11, 12 and 6 if you haven’t heard it by then. Makes sense about the neighbors since no other sites show a 6 even though they show 573. This system has so many quirks from site to site that you just have to roll with the flow and not over analyze it.

The referenced window is labeled "DSD+ Event Log", see below. I drove out of range and got a spurious ProVoice signal but before that in the bottom left it showed NEXEDGE48 303-6 RAN 6. Normally there would have been an "NL:" with a list of neighbors but nothing showed up. I failed to redirect output to a file so can't go back to see the raw data. I was just saw the CC data going by and noting that it wasn't being picked up in the event log window.

I'll skip the weekend for research. Much better chance of Id'ing active voice channels during the week. Will probably see if I can fill in the blanks for Atascosa County.

Seems like the system is much more interesting down there Bob, I haven't caught a transmission in over a week outside of San Antonio. Carrizo Springs and Faith Ranch/El Indio (whatever they want to call it) have occasional affiliations but no voice.

Carrizo Springs finally came alive today, TGs 601, 1903 and 4500. Didn't have the 436 in discovery mode but DSD caught voice channel 196, 452.23750, which is the only channel on the tower license active now. 452.85000 is dead here so I swapped them in the database. Wiki updated.

Lucked out and caught TGs 4602, 3 and 4 on the Pearsall Tower. Talk about schools, maintenance safety meeting after tutoring lets out, and such. Maintenance talk was on 4604 and RIDs aliased as MAINT X. 4602 and 3 were school talk and the only radio IDs I could catch on both were PHS 1 and PHS 2. Definitely Pearsall ISD.

Also caught LCN 122 451.775 as site 5's 3rd repeater and voice only channel.

I also lucked out today, Dark_Side called me at 5am this morning raving about band openings & skip
I tested that theory while on the phone and sure enough I was pulling in freqs from far away counties !
I strolled outside with my DSD+ v2.84 and a tapped scanner with just a rubber duck antenna and wow !
I thought quick about what S&P NXDN 303 sites that needed to be analyzed for additional site freqs etc.
Here is what I was able to nail down before the RX conditions went away back to normal by me at 8am.
I already submitted to the RRDB my Site # 11 & 12 updates as below:

Interesting on the ENC group. Looks like the interest in these systems has picked up a little bit. Talkgroups are starting to get sorted out at a much quicker pace.

TG#4701 in Kenedy,TX is just about all but positive ID'd

Hello, I think I might have another TG pending a needed drive by and or some basic on-site investigation.
This TG# 4701 is active 24/7 on SID#303 Site#12 Kenedy and by affiliation I also hear it on S#1 SATX.

TG=4701 UNID oil field related talkgroup that I 1st heard 5-21-18 , often they key up every 10 minutes.

It was just recently identified as Premier Tank Truck Services. 5 Star is the SWD (Salt Water Disposal) plants, pretty much injection wells that the tank trucks empty at.

Concrete companies are one thing, but oilfield tank/pneumatic trucks involved in water/crude hauling, tank cleanouts, sand transportation and vacuum service are a dime a dozen in the Eagle Ford. Good luck pinning a TG down without hearing pages of clues first.

Now with that said, you ID'd 500 as a Van Transportation company in SA, but another submitter has id'd Radio's 504 and 505 as "Inst Van" and "AB Van" respectively with one talking about radio installations. I have heard something about towers on that TG while driving on I-10 WB in downtown but I wasn't hooked up to DSD+ to see aliases. Could you listen a little in SA and confirm if that is in fact the AB Communications / S&P talkgroup?

Identifing TG# 4701 and now updating TG #500 text

I knew you had the oil field working knowledge to better ID it than I could. Was it yours or Bob's ID find ?
Makes sense these were 3rd party trucks in that their comms clearly say the two 5 Star SWD plant names.
Thinking back over the years I can't recall many company owned plants and their truck drivers saying their
actual Co name just the streets that their different yards are located. A few have given away their name !

As far as this 1st posted generic talkgroup submitted by me back on Feb 22, 2018 at 12:03pm ...
My thinking was to just get a 1st TG posted as a generic test dummy talkgroup so that there would be
an actual system talkgroup object contained in the RRDB so to help others analyze and discovery record.
To assist the scanning hobby community in recording, playing back and identifying NEXEDGE TG's, etc.
I know of 4 local users that NXDN upgraded their BCD-436/536HP's and a few even have the TRX-1 & 2.
Just between these 4 guys they have somewhere on the order over a dozen NXDN capable scanners, etc.
What would be ideal is if a few of them could convert whatever time their scanners spend just turned off
and thus accomplishing nothing, into productive time system researching and Discovery recording TG's

My NXDN tools for now consist only of just a few tapped scanners and a few laptops running DSD+ etc.
Has anyone else noticed the DSD+ audio decode quality on the S&P 68 is richer & clearer than the 303 ?
Trying to real time DSD+ monitor and ID TG's on the S&P NXDN 303 network is ear straining and hard to
make sense of choppy barely intellable words decoded to help ID system TG's compared to the S&P 68.
Is this perception by me due to perhaps a lower digital audio sampling bit rate used by System 303 equip?

Yes I will try continue to painfully listen to TG 500 to help identify and best reflect it's use in the RRDB.
However, as you posted earlier in this thread that BNS Enterprises, an affiliate of S&P Communications,
purchased A&B Communications, a two-way radio sales and service provider based in Corpus Christi, Texas
back in 2014. As most agencies require 3 RFP bids, they easily have 2 of those bids right there

Below are what I have logged so far from TG 500 and RID's seen with aliases that DSD+ has logged:
As you can see the same RID may later reflect a reprogramed alias over time. Any bright ideas like just
calling up both AB and S&P as asking for Scott or Paul and seeing if the have time for say 20 questions

I id'd this when I caught transmission from Radio 505 "INST Van" on TG 4701 doing radio tests and then switched to TG 500 to report " ... to A&B Base leaving Premier Tank and returning to shop ,,,".

Bob, another good job on your ID'ing TG 4701, were you receiving them on your George West Site #3 ?
On Site #1 TG-4701 is dominate. I later figured that Paul had worked your sub around time of my post.
I wonder if TG 4701 also broadcasts on the SATX S#1 perhaps due to an employee radio affiliating here?

Yes, it was site 3. They have been very active on it 24/7 starting earlier this week.

Still trying to ID a few more TGs. TG 601 has a radio with alias "Double J" and another with "Hotmix1" but Google does not respond with anything for Double J that looks reasonable.

On the skip coming in from Louisiana I picked up several 700/800 systems from there on same morning. Furthest was New Iberia, La and then back to Mexico, Seemed to mostly sites located near the coast. I was using a Discone up about 40 feet. I was also using SDRplay for receiver as it was pulling in more signals than scanners.

Site 13 has a new CC, CH 548 462.06875. It was on 463.5875 yesterday so I will listen tomorrow and see if 463.9675 has fallen out of the CC rotation for that site. Interested to know who may be using the Faith Ranch site now that I will be on that ranch for work for the next month. It is a vast piece of property that is renowned for trophy buck hunting complete with its own executive airstrip, but the big bucks are made from oil and gas. Hundreds of wells already and dozens added every year before and after deer season.

I also noticed that 303 site 8 Carrizo Springs is now immediately broadcasting all the neighbors and current CC's like system 68 does. Rockport Site 6 is now showing as a connected neighbor, so it may be back in networking mode again.
