Yesterday I was listening to Metro Fire and dispatch (154.190) assigned operations for a medical call to B2. I understood "bravo" talkgroups were for Sac City Fire. The database here shows A, C, D and T talkgroups assigned to Metro while B is for City Fire. Is there something missing, or is it just me? BTW, the transmissions were fading away quickly as I was heading through Roseville up 80E, so I turned off Sac County after that so I cannot confirm anything. I wasn't even listening to where the call was; it just struck me as odd that B2 was assigned.

They roll to each other's calls all the time, that's likely what you heard.

Sac Metro and Sac City generally subscribe to the "closest unit goes" theory, regardless of jurisdiction, so if the address is in the City, a Bravo command/tac set will be assigned. If the location is in Metro's area, Alpha command/tac sets are used. Both agencies are dispatched out of the same dispatch center, so it is fairly seamless. You have to listen to the battalion location, the units dispatched, and the radio channels assigned to recognize primary jurisdiction.

Duster is correct:

more in depth for the good of the group.

Battalions: 1, 2, 3, 4 are Sac city fire, operations for those battalions are in the Sacramento Site: Bravo group.

Battalions: 5, 7, 9, 12(no longer existing)**, 13, and 14. are Sac Metro Fire. Operations on County Site: Alpha Group.

Battalions: 10, 11(reserve battalion), and 37 is Cosumnes Fire, Operations also on Alpha.
Battalion: 15 Folsom Fire. Alpha group.
Battalion 81: Wilton Fire Battalion 95: Courtland and Walnut Grove. Alpha Group.

All county fire operations are on Alpha.
All city fire operations are on Bravo.

**(however it is still said over the radio. battalion 12 was split up and basically divided into Battalions 5 and 13, this has since been a problem of the "Span of Control" idea, being 3-7 items can be effectively watched by one supervisor, however with the addition of the new stations and subtraction of a battalion chief... this has caused up to about 10 stations...remember 5 is preferred.)**

don't be afraid to ask any more questions. ill be glad to help you out, as long as the rest of the guys.

Slightly OT; What does "Metro A C" stand for? Thanks.

"Metro AC" is the duty Assistant Chief (next step up from Battalion Chief). Probably similar to a Duty Chief in my department, since they only field one per shift.

correct, each department has its own set of numbers as well..
Sac Metro being the 24 series
Sac City 23 or 22 series
Cosumnes 71 series
etc.

just a few examples...
2401 - Metro Fire Chief
2450 - aka 24"safety" - Metro Safety Officer
2491 - Metro Hazmat officer

7150 - Cosumnes on duty EMS Battalion Chief.

What is the criteria for assigning a call to a "Delta" tac channel. I have heard on at least 2 occasions the dispatcher assigning a response to a "Delta" channel.

Thanks

Sacramento Fire Tac TG assignments

What I head on D Tac channels is fire training.

The city uses B Tacs, Metro fire uses the A Tacs. When there are so many fires going that the TGs designated for Tacs are used up (such as A6 to A11), then I've heard them start to use C Tacs (starting with C6).

Yup, like on the 4th of July this year. That was the first time I actually paid attention enough to notice it.

This year's 4th was pretty busy, but not like 2 years ago. My goodness, I thought they were going to run out of tac's altogether! New Year's Eve is fairly busy, too, but not like the 4th.
