Hello all, I've been a scanner enthusiast for almost thirty years now.
However, for the last ten, I've been inactive. I've just recently started
getting back into it, due to being laid off, along with 50 others. Grrrrrr~!!!

Anyhow, Trunking is all new to me, I do have a rough understanding of it now
and my question to you all is; Should I get a digital scanner??? Is there
much digital traffic, in the Sac/Placer Region ? Or can I get just a trunker III
and be fine ? Thanks a ton in advance, JD 3010.. The JD is in reference to John Deere,
not Jack Daniels. When I'm not scanning, I'm going in circles on my tractor, wee~! :)

Also, which two digital's, are the best all around ?
I like GRE500/600, however, The Uniden396/996XT, would keep
a better resale.

I'll need both a handheld and base/mobile.
Provided, there's enough people, telling me to go digital.
Thanks again in advance, JD.

I believe everything is analog only in Placer County at this time.

You can look at their page here:
Placer County, California (CA) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

I can't see paying that much for a digital scanner, in fact the digital "era" or whatever may spell the end of scanning for me, I'll just continue to monitor what I can.

You might even be able to pick up an old car for the price of a digital scanner.

If you got the money to drop, go for it. I've got a 396XT and love it.

It really depends on what you want to listen to. There is very little digital stuff in the immediate Sacramento area, mostly federal channels.

When it comes to a digital scanner, my vote is for the PSR-500 (or PRO-106). But unless you travel to places where digital is used a lot, or want to monitor one of the few digital signals in the area, I'd just get an analog scanner (PSR-300) for now.
