I am saddened to report the loss of two Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies and a third in critical condition w/life threatening injuries. The Eurocopter EC-120 they were flying, dubbed "STAR 6" crashed this afternoon near Lake Natoma. It also started a brush fire in the area.

You can read more about it at any of the Sacramento area news agencies. Here's one:

Deputies Kievernagel and Blount are to be buried today (as of this writing the funeral procession is still going -97 at the church). The procession was worthy of two fine public servants who died doing what they loved according to their families. If any LEO's here went, thank you.

Units from Riverside, CA, Medford, OR, in addition to two Nevada Highway Patrol, several Washoe County Sheriffs, and many, many units from much closer made the trip to honor the Deputies.

Blount's family also made a statement issued by the Sheriff's Dept. on their website. http://sacsheriff.com/media/0719_statement.cfm
