I was near Sac Regional Fire's dispatch center ( KNFM243 ) using my CloseCall I grabbed 159.0750 PL 162.2 which is simulcast of SRRCS TRS "FDSP B" (city fire)

I found this strange since 153.89000 PL 162.2 Callsign KMF886 is the listed and used simulcast freq.

159.0750 is listed in FCC as WNUU812 which is nowhere near where I snagged the freq..

Why am I hearing 159.0750 from a tower that doesn't appear to be associated with that freq.

153.890 is definitely the City fire "output" frequency. Perhaps someone can enlighten us as to whether or not they use a radio frequency to a repeater which outputs on 153.890, and perhaps that's just what you've found (or if it is hardwierd/etc). I note that in the database NO FREQUENCY is shown for an input to 153.890, it is blank. Usually when a channel is simplex the same frequency is listed as both the input and output. I find it interesting that the input in this case is blank.

according to a print out i have, which i obtained from a source of mine it says this:
"SACRAMENTO CITY DISPATCH...(1)..PL 162.2..[RPT 159.075]....153.890 MHZ"
" SACTO CITY (OUT OF SERVICE).(2)..PL 162.2..[RPT 158.760]...153.950 MHZ"

i think i was friday night, i heard around 720 or 820 at night, "radio service testing 12345" and dispatch would come back and say "loud and clear" this happened several times, however it was on 154.19.

159.075 PL 162.2 is definitely the repeater input for 153.890. Try programming 153.890 in one scanner and 159.075 in another. You will hear the same traffic on both frequencies, with the usual slight delay on the repeated frequency.

sac city doesnt have tones do they? and i get pretty crappy reception of it down here in EG, as a matter of fact every where, is the repeater any better?

Okay that settles that, but why isn't 159.075 listed as transmitting from that specific tower.
Is that normal?

153.890 comes in well in the city limits (not surprising), but it doesn't have the range of Sac County's 154.190 frequency. I have noticed that Sac County seems to have multiple towers for 154.190, kind of like CHP. I get varying signal strength, which is especially noticeable when there is a dispatch for Elk Grove, Galt, or anwhere else way south of me (I'm in the middle of the city).

makes sense. there is a radio tower at station 72, i dont understand why things dont come in crystal clear since im not that far from it (less than 2 miles). and i believe that is too far away to use the attenuator? although im not sure when to use it and when not too. its off at the moment.

when i say things i mean 800mhz.

my plectron picks up 154.19 NO problem at all.

is actually located there? or did you just pick it up? assuming how far close call "reaches"

It was a CloseCall hit - I had it on CloseCall only mode and I didn't have the freq programmed into my 396T. I got several hits with PL tone too.

I'm sure the tower you see at Station 72 is a receieve and/or microwave link - not transmit - at least I know it's NOT a tower for the trunked radio system. The personnel at the fire station use portable and mobile trunked radios.

okay, wasnt sure since it now extends down into galt, and galt is on a repeater for dispatch.

also i was coming down walerga and about 3 blocks north of elk horn i saw a tower that was dressed up like a pine tree, didnt get that good of a look at it though. would that be a relay site too?

No, that would be a "disguised" cell phone tower.

The closest SRRCS tower to Walerga Rd and Elkhorn Blvd is located at Gibson Park. The closest tower to galt is Sheriff's Bond Rd Station and/or Walnut Grove tower.

Radio Reference database and FCC sites willl show exact tower locations.

Where is the Fire dispatch center located relative to the location of the 153.89 repeater? Maybe they are using a low power radio (which transmits on 159.075) to feed the audio from the talkgroup to the 153.89 repeater. Peter Sz

That was my first question in this thread. I was surprised to see that no input frequency was shown for the two city fire channels. They've been around quite some time. I checked my own records from 20 years ago and have no notes of there being an input frequency (does not mean there is or isn't).

To see where the transmitters are for 153.890: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?action=fcc&cs=KMF886

Well, there is no "input" if its simplex...there is nothing to input it to.

That is why you'll see listings in the DB that way.

Sometimes you see simplex channels listed in the DB with the same frequency for input and output. But the very discussion in this thread is whether or not 159.075 is an input for 153.890 and whether or not 158.760 is the input for 153.950.
