Hi, I like to listen to Sac County SO on my trunk tracker scanner. I have all 27 frequencies installed (868.9375 L/O). I listen to 8208, 8240, 8272, 8304 as a talk group. My reception is intermittant? sometime I receive traffic sometimes no traffic -- on and off during the day! Are you having this problem? can it be fixed? Thanks, Jim

Assuming you have all the trunked frequencies programmed, it could just be that the SSD is very quiet at times. There's been a few times lately where I've wondered if they switched to digital talk groups - they've been so quiet. But if you give it some time, you'll hear them.

As I'm sure antfreq could tell you, they do a large majority of dispatches and communications via MDTs, so sometimes their air is very silent. Compare this to Sac PD, where there almost seems to be someone constantly on the air. There seems to be a big difference between the agencies and how they use their radios.

Do you listen to any other talk groups on the county system? Listening to Metro Fire or City Fire dispatch would give you a good indication if you're setup properly. Between Metro and City fire, there's a lot of traffic on talk groups 2608, 2640, 3120, and 3152.

Hello, I'm new here but I've been trunking Sac. City and County for a long time on my Uniden BC895XLT. I've noticed in recent weeks that either the City or the County will go completely silent for most of the day. I don't think it's an antenna problem since when it does work, it's quite a strong signal.

I notice also that I will see a faint blinking ID with six digits, starting with a 6. I can't make it out but it seems to blink in a regular manner. Strange.

Also, I've tried normal, non-trunked scanning with the same frequencies when there is no apparent trunked traffic on the City or County. I get lots and lots of transmissions so I know people are out there talking to one another. When I do that I have to lock out the Control Channels, though.

Perhaps they are testing and getting ready to change ove to the new system. Looks like I'll be needing a new scanner, too.

.

You are definitely having problems with your scanners. I can vouch for the fact that the "old" system is still in extremely active use. You need to check your frequencies or something, because the conversion to the new system is nowhere near done.

You will hear traffic on the old system for (probably) the majority of the rest of the year.

Crewman126: I gotta' ask. It appears this is at least the second time you've asked this question (or something extremely similar). Are you reading the responses to your previous post(s)?

you're probably on the outskirts, sac county's TRS gets poopy when you're on the outskirts.

there's been a change in the control channels too, (as noted in the DB) take a look and make changes accordingly.

???????????????????????????

Confused.

Just dumb humor. I don't have the problem while at work since I'm using a CentraCom Gold Elite console.

got my Sac County scanner going

Thanks to Antfreq who got me on the right track. The Sac county trunked system is using, right now, 868.5375 as control. I also had 868.7375 and 868.9625 active on my scanner. When I (actually deleted them) took 868.7375 and 868.9625 out of my scanner, like magic, the scanner started working properly. Thank to everyone for your assistance. Now it appears that the Sac system is switching control frequencies about every 12 hours or so--so I'm going to have to re-enter one of my deleted freqs and then delete 868.5375 to get it going again -- I have a radio but that doesn't I know how to operate it correctly -- the manual I pretty big! I will probably switch to just "locking out" the non op control freqs when they change -- there is probably an easier way! I keep working on it -- THANKS

Hey crewman, what type of radio do you have? You might not need to lock out/delete control channel freqs.
