This is really sad. I'm so sorry to see something fun turn into something like this. My best to the family who now has to deal with this loss.

This is EXACTLY the reason those little yellow warning stickers are put on the bottom of every antenna...but does anyone ever read them?
This hobby like any other requires common sense, and with that being said this is the result when it's not present.

Can we maybe put all these replies in the same thread. There are 2 other started on the same topic.

Also who puts an antenna up in the dark?

The victims were not hams themselves. They were erecting an antenna for a licensed relative.

No matter how eager any ham might be to get on the air, they should not sacrifice ignorant family members to a nighttime antenna raising. Who was actually the brains behind this operation? They should consider themselves liable, whether the law says so or not. This was morally wrong.
