I read in another post that someone was having trouble with recieving Safe-T, he was advised to purchase a digital scanner. (If I understood the post correctly, I haven't had my coffee yet) If you do need a digital scanner to pick it up, is it worth the price of a digital scanner?

P.S anybody here NW Ind. (Lake Co.) catching all this drug interdiction stuff on the Sherriffs freq's. it's been going on now for about a month or so, it gets kinda boring, with periods of extreme excitement (chases and such) they seem to be going from town to town, the last town was East Chicago on wednesday.

I strongly believe the price of a digital scanner is worth the $500.00 to monitor Safe-T. All ISP districts (as far as I know) are using Safe-T in digital mode, SEMA uses Safe-T in digital mode, and some police and fire agencies in certain counties (i.e., Johnson County) are using Safe-T in digital mode. Additionally, Marion County is supposed to be going digital in 2005, though this will be a system independent of Safe-T. However, you will still need a digital scanner to monitor this new digital system for Marion County. Additionally, I'm sure other agencies will be jumping on the digital bandwagon in the not so far future.

Thanks for the reply. I live in Lake County just down the road from the Lowell ISP, I can hear dispatch on 42.4200 but not the reply, is this because they are on the SAFE-T? or a trunked system?or is it something totally different? (I'm a rookie, can you tell) :) As for going digital, I would love to buy the new RS 2096, but my budget won't allow it (yet!) besides I haven't heard of anyone going digital around here any time soon. If you hear different please post. as it stands I only monitor Lowell, all surounding towns, as well as lake co sheriff, and newton co. sheriff, I only have a pro-2044, 80 channels, had it since it first came out I believe, did what I needed it to do, but just like everything else, sooner or later it becomes outdated, so I can't wait to buy the 2096 or at the very least the BC898T. save up for the digital when I really need it. Thanks again.

You are located in ISP District 13. I just confirmed (on the RR database) that District 13 does use the Safe-T system. The communications tower for the Safe-T system in Lake County is located in Lowell. The Safe-T frequencies for the Lowell tower are 860.4625, 866.8750, 866.9750, 867.3750, 867.4750, 867.8625, 867.8750, 867.9750 (alternate control channel), 868.3875 (control channel).

The reason you hear dispatch on 42.4200 is because I believe that District 13 is simulcasting on their old frequencies. 42.4200 is for the dispatch only. Program these frequencies into your scanner as well:

42.2600 - Car to Dispatch
42.1200 - Car to Car
42.1400 - Tactical
42.4000 - Alternate Dispatch

I hope this helps. For others on this board, please jump in if I am not correct on what I have said. I'm by no means an expert.

Thanks racin06, sorry it took so long to respond back.

I tried those other frequencies, I still have them programed in, haven't heard a thing on them.

Still not sure if I want to pay all that money for a DIGITAL scanner just to hear the ISP.

Thanks again.

That's the one, they had the Sheriffs use their other channels, 155.5200, 155.9700, while the "teams" used the main. When you listen you'll hear East Chicago, or Gary, or whatever town their in using the 154.8150 Freq. along with some County Sheriffs, mostley it just sounds like traffic stops, but every now and then you hear a foot or car chase go down. Another GREAT freqency to have is 170.5000, I think it's Counties Drug Team, you can hear them tracking drug dealers, making buys, and such. I sure hope I didn't cut my own throat giving this out, it's fun listening to them track these idiots like animals!

Where in Indiana are you?
