I have been traveling to Shelby co and Johnson co recently so i put SAFE-T back into my 996t. Seconds after programming and hitting the scan button, i remembered why i deleted SAFE-T in the first place. The incredibly annoying short burst of white noise/motorboating that precedes nearly every transmission of radio traffic drives me crazy. Even when it is locked on a channel, Greenwood PD, for example, it still does it more than 75% of the time that someone keys their radio. Is there some adjustment that can be made to make it go away? I had been listening to MECA exclusively and it NEVER did that. I used to thank God daily that MECA did not join SAFE-T. It got to be so annoying that i just deleted the entire system. I initially put it in so i could l monitor ISP. Is there a fix or is there not going to be SAFE-T in my future?

Have you tried updating the firmware (download available in Uniden's support area)? I did this with the 396T a while ago, and the latest version has vastly reduced motorboating on SAFE-T. Not sure if the same applies to the 996 but it's worth a try

You should have less motorboating with the 996 than the 396. Did you set your SAFE-T digital TGs to "digital only?" Doing that should cut down on the motorboating. On my 396 I get less motorboating when setting the "Adjust P25 Level" to "Manual" and "8." Of course you should download the latest firmware update which is 3.01.00 IIRC.

This is exactly right! Set the digital talkgroups from auto to digital and there will be no more motorboating noise on the 996.

If you do it manually. Press Menu, then select Program system, then edit group, then edit channel, select the channel, then set audio type, change from All to Digital Only. You'll need to do that for each channel/talkgroup that's digital.

If you are using the Uniden uasd programming software, for each talkgroup, it's the Audio column, change that from All to Digital.

In the database here, the talkgroups that are digital have the mode listed with a D. Don't change Analog talkgroups as you won't be able to hear them, only change the ones that are digital.
