mrghoo. I'm sure I confused you as I am new to this scanning business. I had no problem getting all the TGID's for the local police, fire and medical with the old analog system. My problem started with the switch over to the new digital system. After the switch over I am still able to get the police with the setting I had however I am unable to get any of the medical or fire TGID's, weird I think. However upon putting in some new frequencies and TGID's, I could not get anything while on the 800/900 mhz system. If I switch it to the P25 system ( manual or auto) I can get everything again, it's just garbled. Guess I will try clearing everything out and programming some new frequecies and TGID's and see how it goes with the P25 system.
Try this. Program in one system using the old frequencies and use the old Motorola analog system mode. Call it something like Saginaw Analog. You won't get all of the talk groups you used to, but you will get the main Central Dispatch city and county police and fire dispatches for now (I don't know if these will eventually go away or not). From what I'm hearing on the old system, you won't get any of the county, city, or township local and admin transmissions.
Then, program a second system using the P25 format with the control channels I gave you. Call it Saginaw Digital. Keep track of the TGID's that you get for the P25 system and program them in as you get them, but I would recommend that you do ID Search for now, not ID Scan with the new system. You may uncover talk groups new to us.
Now you can switch between one or the other, or scan both consecutively. The garble may or may not go away as things go on. If you read the link I gave you, you will see it is a known problem. If using different antennas or future tweaking of the system doesn't help, some of us are not going to be able to monitor from our present locations without much frustration. I hope this is not the case!!!!
I've been monitoring the public service bands since the early 60's when it was near impossible to get the necessary equipment and you had to hide in your closet when you used it . Probably have purchased two dozen or more different radios and a dozen different antennas. If this new system ruins my ability to continue my hobby, I will be very disappointed to say the least. Good luck to us all... Sorry if I was preaching.
