Tg7039

OK, this is odd.........had a hit on 7039 off the Saginaw Simulcast system today. Database lists it as Houghton County 911 PD. What is going on? From my travels in the UP, TG's 6xxx & 7xxx are usually up there. Did the network get crossed up a bit? I did not hear any communication on the 7039 while it was active that would give me a clue as to what department I was hearing.

Might have just solved it. Could it have been skip? The Saginaw Simulcast has the same control channel as tower 618- Donken in Houghton County. I did not actually pull up a tower on my radio, I just saw the control frequency and assumed it was off the Saginaw system as it was 868.9875. I am not sure how much 800 MHz skips though. Ideas?

Saginaw county's simulcast system is no longer a "county" trs. The saginaw county simulcast system is now part of, or putting it another way, connected to the rest of the mpscs statewide system. So not only will you pick up just local tg's, but other tg's from across the rest of the state. Whether from the u.p. or the western side of the state. Or the detroit metro area.

All talkgroups do not transmit on all towers do they? Seems like regional TG's would be restricted to regional towers whereas only statewide TG's would go on all towers.

That is correct. Most local tg's have access to towers within their geographic area, & some tg's have all access in a given area for statewide interoperability. I did find in one of the michigan forums that someone had posted the mpscs newsletter, vol 1, issue 5, sept/oct 2009. I printed it out. But it was a very good article about how the system is suppose to work. I'm not sure if it's still posted or not. If it is, that would link to grab. It did give me a better insight. But there are tg's that you will pull in from all over the place. When i first started listening to mpscs back in 2004, when bought my pro-96, there were a lot more cross-state transmissions. There's not as much now.

No. Talkgroups follow their users, so if someone in your area is on MSP D1N, you'll be hearing it too. Otherwise you won't hear it.

Another thing is that there are some tg's that i used to get a lot more frequently that now i only get once in a while, and that is within the mid-michigan region even. And that i believe is do to the fact that with more agencies joining the mpscs. The system therefore will be more regionalized. Meaning less cross-state transmissions in the future.

Dispatchers do not have the ability to select towers. That's what is so cool about smartzone. The subscriber just travels, and the system does the rest, lighting only the towers that need to be used for that TG.

1694 is albee fire admin tg and 1749 is albee fire ops tg. Each twp fd @ this point has both a admin & a ops tg.

This is a good tip, each township fire having a Admin and a Ops TGID. If you take the old alphabetical list of those fire departments and, knowing some of the new Admin and Ops TGIDs, I believe you can extrapolate the new TGID's for them all. The only hole in this is a skip around MBS, but I think that MBS may be using some or all of 1707 thru 1709. I wonder if this tactic would work for other services?

What it looks like they did was put all the Townships in Alphabetical order for both Admin and Ops, and then assigned TGID's in numeric order for both, Almost.

I pretty sure based on some communications I've heard so far is that 1707 is MBS International Airport. I'm also sure that it's an Admin. Question I have is, is it Admin for All Airport Ops (which I'm leaning towards). Or Admin for CFR. 1708 or 1709 is prob an admin for Richland Twp Fire. However, that is unconfirmed.

I was just on the mpscs database page and they have a lot of new info on Saginaw County. Looks like almost everything is listed.

In order to follow my proposed pattern, you are right. 1708 would be Richland fire Admin, then 1709 would be Saginaw City fire Admin and 1710 becomes Saginaw Township fire Admin. This appears to be wrong from what I presently have seen, except for the Richland TGID which fits the pattern. Guess we will have to wait and see..
