Salt Lake area fire departments

Alright...

I'm new here. I happened on to this site from a reference on a Yahoo talkgroup, so bear with me for just a minute or two. I have a Radio Shack scanner (unfortunately it's at home, and I don't remember the model... 300 channel trunker) and I have programmed in numerous blocks of frequencies / trunk id's so that I can scan the fire departments in the Salt Lake County area. Which gave me a great amount of that information. I came from Kaysville Fire, up in the Davis area, so I'm a little familiar with how this system works.

Now, I realized the other day that I'm not picking up anything anymore. I don't remember the exact last date I heard traffic on my scanner, but I figure at least a couple of weeks or so. Up to that point, I was listening to the fire channels out of VECC. I have seen on the Utah Forum page that the county has recently been added to the UCAN system... does this have anything to do with my problem? Or... is my scanner going wacky?

yes it does all county fire and county sheriff has moved to VECC as well, the control channel is now 868.1125, you can find all the info on talkgroups and ids on the rr database under salt lake and then ucan systems.

This is getting to be a pain...

I've programmed in all of the 'Salt Lake County' freq's, but it will not allow me to program in talk groups. When I search, I'm getting Type 1 talk groups coming up. I checked the list here against what I had before, and both data channels were already among those I had programmed, but the 854 up to 859 freq's were not ones I had used in the past. This is really wierd...

My location is in the south end of the valley, Midvale and West Jordan. Should I actually use other sites? It's been about three months or so since I programmed, and I don't remember what I used last time. I'm pretty sure I used Salt Lake County, but I might have thrown in a few others to get a good coverage.

Any ideas?

Well, now I may sound a bit like I'm crying wolf...

I just got the idea after looking over some past forum items to try the Nelson Peak freq's. It worked! I'm picking up the VECC Fire channels now off of those frequencies. I'm guessing this must have something to do with location (myself and the site) but how would I know where these sites are located? Is there any type of map or additional knowledge to know where the sites are so that you can pick the closest one?

Oh yeah, I'm using an older toy... a Pro-90.

You should be picking up the Salt Lake Simo freqs with no problems. When Salt Lake County Sheriff joined UCAN they added many of their freqs to the UCAN Salt Lake Simo ones. There are now 19 freqs being used on Salt Lake Simo. The control freq is 868.1125 and if you get it strong at your location, then you should have no problem receiving the system. I noticed you are using an old radio, so you will probably have to put in all 19 freqs. If you look under the UCAN listings on this site, you will find the new freqs. All Salt Lake county fire units are dispatched on VECC Fire 1 thru 4. Salt Lake Fire is on the new Salt Lake Police/Fire system, but is being linked to VECC 5 and 6 on UCAN Of course Davis county fire units are on UCAN Davis Simo. Davis Fire 1 and 2 and the OPS channels. South Davis Fire and Bountiful Fire are merging on January 1 to form the South Davis Metro Fire Agency. They will be dispatched by Bountiful PD and have their own talkgroups, that havent been released yet. They will respond on the OPS channels. Most of these are also on Nelson Peak most of the time. The Talkgroup IDs are also on this site under UCAN.
