I noticed in the peliminary user's manual for the 396 that this function defaults to off. Meaning you need to go into the menu system and change the Motorola tunk settings to control channel only. This default may be different when the radio is actually released, though. I would think the default would be control channel only programming for Motorola systems.

You will be in the menus while setting up a system anyway, so it's not that big of a deal. To activate the CC only, it might be a few clicks away from where you set up the frequencies.

Actually (assuming it will work like a 796 does) you will want to set CC only mode to OFF. If you turn it on, you will confuse the scanner and miss comm's.

You also will not need to enter any voice channels. The scanner finds them automatically. Entering the voice channels will only do 2 things, both bad: Take up space and waste time finding the active CC.

So what's the definitive answer? Do we program only the CCs and leave CC-only mode off? (Why is there even a non-CC-only mode for Motorola?)

And any decision on whether those of us who have already ordered the 396 can get a jump on downloading the software, so that we can be set up when the scanner comes?

BTW, since I've never said it before, a huge thank you for everything you do for us hobbyists here and on other BBSs, lists, etc.

I just re-read what I posted yesterday and realized I forgot to mention one little thing - what I wrote applies to 9600 baud P25 systems ONLY. 3600 baud Astro and analog motorola systems will still need a CC plan set.
