It means they got a new license for a P25 system so a change may be in the not too distant future. Not sure what system they use now, but look for them to move to P25.

Sampson County is currently using VIPER. Not sure if they are switching systems or just adding another one.

They may be doing what some other counties have done. They are probably adding and paying for a few viper sites to be able to get better coverage than the current sites around them offer. They may also do paging over 800 in the future.

Paging over 800 would be a great step up! Thanks for the info!

Don't quote me on that though, they could just be preparing to buy radios to operate on viper. It is but programing pagers to decode tones on 800 is a royal pain depending on the model.

I'm from Sampson County but I've been living in Wake County for over 20 years. I still listen to Sampson EMS and fire on broadcastify, I just hate the hard patch they have set up on EMS...makes the transmission sound garbled, especially when EMS units are talking back to communications.
