City executives on Wednesday recommended giving a 15-year, $106 million public-safety radio system contract to the same company that manages the existing network largely because of its experience, even as Deputy City Manager Erik Walsh told City Council members that firefighters would much rather use handsets made by a competing bidder.

Looks like they are saying that the EDACS system's end of life is slated for 2021, and that the county has considered joining GATRRS but would rather remain partnered with SA.
