How is this going to accomplish that?

Are you going to clear the poll every day, and let us "vote" on it.

So if 52.5% of people think ESK is off... is it really off?

    :D :D :D

How about I just update the faq with a place I can go edit with a date/time stamp?

nuts - i knew this would happen as soon as i posted the poll...but...

i just received word that this was the LAST test of ESK that will be performed because...

THE SYSTEM IS GOING ANALOG!!!

don't raise your beer mugs in a toast yet - it's going analog with ESK on (remember, i said last "test" of ESK).

if anyone else can confirm/deny this "reliable rumor" i'm hearing today, please either PM me or post here too.

Hankey, be good if they went analog, but curious here.... how exactly will they make the radio's analog.. Is there something in the dispatch center that makes the didgital patch, or is it actually in the portable radios?

I know, sounds like an silly question, but isn't there an board in the portables that is "flashed" for digital use, and the radios would have to be re-flashed to make them analog, or is it more simple than that.... or more technical?

Not to take the thread into the ditch, but you got me wondering :?:

If they wanted to make the same talkgroups analog (instead of Provoice), the radios do have to be re-programmed (not flashed). This can be done by bringing every radio into the shop, or if they purchased the "Profile" feature for the system and the radios, the radios can be reprogrammed over the air. Any radio programmed for Digital can receive analog, but any radio that is set up for analog cannot receive digital, so it makes that kind of change over difficult on the same talkgroups.

If they wanted to do a big talkgroup swap and program the radios ahead of time, and then have everyone in a group switch to the new talkgroups at once, they could do it that way. That would be a strange migration plan, but it could be done.

"Profile" is not in use.

from the sound of it, they will have to haul the radios in and reprogram them over the next few weeks.

This, I have to see (and hear)!

I wonder what the driving factor is?

I wonder if the city/county gets a refund for not using ProVoice? That should help the city budget process and keep all those FF captain positions available.. :D

It would be interesting to find out if they get a refund for not using ProVoice. I can see that decision hinging on what was the driving factor for not using it. After all, their RFP did ask for a digital system, right?
