San Antonio EDACS Question - Site Selection

I just recently picked up a BCD436HP after being away from scanning since the early 90's. My last scanner was a RS Pro 51. Needless to say, A LOT has changed, but I am picking it up and learning how to program it pretty quickly. I do have a question about listening to the EDACS ProVoice system in San Antonio.

I have all of the system sites programmed and have assigned each a quick key. Right now I am turning sites on and off depending on where I am located. Example; I live north of 1604 out 281 so I only select the "American" site when I am at home. I work on Ft Sam, so I select the Blue and Gold when at work. When driving around town I usually select the site closest to the area I am in.

Is this the most efficient way to scan this system or am I overcomplicating it or going at it completely wrong?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations on how to set up "Favorites"? Right now I have them by location, Example: Home PD, Home Fire/EMS, All PD, All Fire/EMS, SAPD Ch3, and so forth. Just curious what methodology others in the area use?

Thanks in advance!

Did you obtain a 436HP with PV already loaded? Or, have you paid for the PV firmare upgrade?

I really never bothered with assigning the various sites with a number, but that is the way some folks roll. That method, from what I've been told is one of the most efficient method for optimizing scanner performance.

When I create Favorites, I have a home base along with various trips designated in different profiles. When I make Favorites, I always put a number such as [01] or [02] in front of the Favorite name so that I can see the Favorite number within the radio screen. I don't use configuration keys. At present, I have 65 Favorites that I toggle on and off like an old banked scanner.

When I last visited, I was surprised by all of the clear transmissions such as Vice. It was a great listen. I just programmed and drove. It was working well.

It sounds like you have it together. Enjoy!
