I need some serious help!!! I'll be travelling to the San Diego area in early August. After looking at the RR Database I'm confused. The City of San Diego looks manageable, but do all of the frequencies for San Diego County have to be programmed? I'm only interested in the fire talk groups. I'll be using either a 250D or a 396. I have the ARC programs for both. Please help. Thanks.

For the RCS it depends which Fire Depts you want to listen to. If you want North County Fire Depts you'll need to program the North Zone. For Heartland, etc you'll have to program in the South Zone. The South Zone is difficult to receive unless you are in the southern part of the county, whereas the North can often be picked up throughout the county.

Try North, South, and East and see how that works. They need to be programmed as separate systems. All the other sites are mainly for fill-in.

And don't forget if you're in the actual CITY of San Diego just program the City system (which is analog not digital) and forget the RCS unless you have time to program it. If you'll be traveling around the San Diego area however the RCS will be important to program, but the City system is extremely active and will prove to be plenty to listen to. :)
