I've been listening a bit today to the Blue Angels. Early on there was traffic on 305.500 (Fat Albert) and 275.350 (Diamond out of Box). Later there was traffic on 284.250 (Show Box) and then 237.800 (Solos Out of Box). Sadly the actual Fat Albert didn't seem to be in the air.
Even with a roof antenna I didn't have great luck pulling them in except when they flew closer to my neighborhood in SF...how many watts are those radios in the planes? :D
Anyway, bummed that I'll be out of town this weekend so I'm trying to get some listening time in on the practice days.

BC128AT with stock rubberduck at thigh height, at Pier 41 I had solid reception of the entire show including Bert on 305.3. It only got spotty when jets were well south of me over the city setting up "behind crowd," which makes sense with their low altitude and the earth/buildings behind me.

Otherwise, great show Sunday! I'm used to an airport airshow where you have to wait for acts to take off and land. This was a nice pace as one act cleared the box, the next act was usually already in the air and cleared to enter the box. Kept things moving.

I had solid reception of most of the aircraft (but not ground stations) in the Richmond district of SF, using an Icom R15 and a Signal Stick. The R15 did well for both UHF and VHF aircraft, as I think it is designed to.

I was on the Jeremiah O'Brien with my nephew and brother in law on Saturday. Didn't get the Blue Angels, but got most of the rest flying right overhead. Didn't bring a radio.
Nice way to spend the day.

We were on it Sunday. Brought the radios and got some great stuff. Definitely doing it again next year.
