As a beginner I had a Golden moment, as if it was out of a movie but with real life action heroes you can be proud of.

Around 3:30PM PST, this Friday 13th, I picked up about 5 minutes of surveillance activity in the clear on 418.950000 FM CT 156.7 with a RS Pro 106 scanner, so the numbers may be rounded up. Perhaps an old DEA Channel 5 MT TAM frequency?

Surveillance activity, SWAT and SWAT training (especially firing range) and maybe the San Mateo County public gun range (Coyote Point Range) or any other ranges I can pick up, would represent my most favorite listening hobby.

Any additional local frequencies you can recommend and list of "action" along these lines, that I will enjoy, transmitted in the clear, in the San Mateo County SF Bay Area, will be appreciated. Thank you

I wonder if what you heard was related to the President being in town.

Unlikely, but who knows and what do I know? You are the experts. They possibly made a reference to target or someone as the "Dude."

They also lacked a radio for some members and were coordinating via telephone.

CHP was also involved. I caught the last 5 minutes or so on 418.950000 FM CT 156.7, but had to leave when they first started talking. Sadly the action was brief and over when I was able to post.

I just learned that they then switched to 4 (likely Channel 4). That explains the end of transmissions on what I was monitoring, that was left paused on the 418.950000 FM CT 156.7 (maybe DEA Mount Tam Channel 5).

I can practically fit everything into one Pro 106, to do the work of several Pro96's, 95 and 97. But unfortunately the Pro106 cannot do Phase 1 and 2 of the new SMCO Sheriff system.

As I decide which scanner to get, the BCD436HP or WS1080, to also do the new SMCO Phase 1 and 2 later. I just hope WS1080 or BCD436HP have the same large block capacity, to hold everything I have, in one Pro 106 and the Signal Stalker to help me out.

As a beginner with low end equipment. I have two problems monitoring channels like this.

1. When a channel is encrypted, I want the scanner to not stop on the channel, I want an auto skip function, without any pause that might be audible for VAC/VOR. But when the same encrypted channel broadcasts in the clear, I want to hear it for VAC/VOR.

Hoping to solve this problem: with my old scanners: Scanning sounds like a shooting gallery. I then lock those channels, but when they transmit in the clear, I miss them.

2. I want to hear all modes and CT etc type tones on a channel, except encrypted. Problem is that the scanner stops on the channel and does a search with static. Hope to find a way to enter a channel, so it accepts all tones and modes (except encrypted), without stopping to do a search to have that static.

Testing on 418.825 mhz

I heard what sounded like a radio tech doing some testing on 418.825 this afternoon. I have that listed as DEA on Mt. Tam. I haven't heard the DEA or anyone on these freqs in years. Maybe they'll be returning.
