Sand fire - Amador/Eldorado County - CalFire

Near Sand Ridge Road and SR-49. 1300 acres, many resources working it. CalFire Command 2 and Air Tactics 4 are in use. 2 structures burned, 1 minor injury. At least one strike team enroute from NEU. Smoke column is visible all over the Sacramento Valley and foothills.

I saw the VLAT911 (DC10) drop on this last eve, very impressive!

and I must say.. it was just about Sun down... it was awesome... I had been wondering when the tankers were gonna show up, when this big ol' jet comes out of the cloud.. had to take a double take.! wow!

Apparently they diverted the VLAT down to El Portal at Yosemite for a new start down there. Yes, it's definitely an impressive sight.

Santa Barbara County Fire just dispatched a strike team of 5 Type 3's to the fire.

DC 10 was not deverted due to 65 minutes of flight time left. Send another heavy in it's place to Yosemite. DC 10 as well as other heavies on the ground at McClellan. Going from 1800 acres last nite to over 4000 today with impressive burn rate.

Interesting part of the Sand fire, was a home owner doing a firing around his house causing the main fire to do what they did not want. 2 helo's kept putting the guys fire when they decided to paint his house pink.
