Just wanted to see who else out there monitors Sangamon County . Compare info reception , news etc...

I do, scannerbum. I have monitored Sang. county/Springfield for 20+ years. I saw your thread on the other forum. There is alot of pagers and strong fm broadcasters in this area. I use an fm trap (bought at RS) on one of my scanners. The other one I use a par filter to take out some of the interference, (it doesn't get all of it.) I monitor mostly the city's trs (police and fire), and state (154.935). Even with a discone antenna on a 45 foot tower I cannot hear all of the mobiles on the state police freq. or on 158.82.

I used to monitor Sangamon County when I lived about 30 minutes from Springfield. About the only things I could really get a good signal on was:

- County Fire
- Springfield Fire (460.575)
- ISP High Band
- Sheriff's Office (155.535)
- ISP Lo-band.

I never really listened to City PD as I never had a trunking scanner while I lived down there. Also, I don't think I could have gotten a good signal, either. Whenever I did make it into Springfield (which was often) I never really had much interference unless I was near WFMB's tower or in the middle of downtown.

When I Lived There...

When I lived there I monitored. I actually got some great reception in my basement by buying an antenna (like one that would go on the side or roof of a house - not very technical so I don't know the name) and mounting it to an exposed water pipe. The only thing I couldn't pick up in the whole county was the ISP mobiles that weren't nearby.

I've monitored on a couple trips up to Springfield. I listened to their trunked public safety system and wow, that was one active system. Scanner never got around to the conventional stuff.

Springfield / Sangamon

We are frequent visitors as my wife hails from Springfield and I love it there as well. The city public safety trunked system is great, works very well and gets out like crazy. We also enjoy listening to Sangamon County Sheriff, Menard County County Sheriff/EMS, Abraham Lincoln Airport, local jurisdictions and business systems in town. Don't discount the feds in Sfld, either. For a semi-small town, there's a lot to listen to in the patch.

Do you mean something like a TV antenna?
