I was on my way home from work and there were a lot of police, sheriff, fire and paramedics heading into Santa Cruz. I'd left my phone at home, so I had no idea what was going on. I was on a van pool, so I fell asleep. When I got back to my truck I turned my radio on but didn't hear enough traffic to make sense of it.
Sad that these two officers were killed by this scum. Knowing that they both had families that will have to live with this forever makes me thankful for my own family. I'm sure I'll hear more about this as time goes on.
I lived in Santa Cruz for several years back in the late 1990's, and back then it was a pretty quiet town, but did have some issues with tolerance, violence, drugs and general troublemakers. It's really too bad that the city council has let things deteriorate so far. The past few weeks have been quite violent. This shooting, a rape at UCSC, another shooting on the west side, constant heroin and drug issues, violence, hatred. I'm really saddened by this one, but I hope it wakes up the city council, or at least gets the house cleaned out and more responsible people in charge.
