Santa Maria California Police System

I was in Santa Maria over the weekend wasn't able to hear both sides
of the conversation with the pro-96 sometimes I only heard one side
and the other sounded garbled. What type system are they using?

Motorola non-trunked P25 digital. I don't yet have a digital scanner (ordered it yesterday), but word on the street is they're encrypting pretty regularly. I think someone said they were encrypting dispatch and running mobiles in the clear.

I heard from someone who lives up that way, that dispatch is digital but not encrypted, and the field units are digitala and encrypted. Wonder which one is correct?

Santa Maria pd dispatch is digital only, the mobile units are digital encrypted. also at times both are digitaly encryptyed. I know this because i live in the area.

I live about 20 minutes north of Santa Maria, but don't yet have a digital scanner. That changes Friday.

Well, made my first trip to Santa Maria since receiving my BCD-396T and it appears as though it was ALL encrypted.

Sure hope their crime rate plummets with all of this secret police activity.

I'll be traveling to Santa Maria this weekend, and staying for a few days. Can anyone tell me if I should expect to hear only scrambled PD radio traffic, or if I might actually hear anything intelligible while I'm up there?

Also, if someone happens to have their NAC as well, I'll just program it into the Astro Saber and forget using carrier squelch on the BCD396T altogether...
