Spoke with some PD friends that are familer with operations of the system last night and they said they have been told that they will go from provoice to P25 next year sometime and encryption is possible but may not happen due to the cost to encrypt all channels in each radio. County has already gotten new dual mode radios from harris that are P25 phase 1 and 2 ready.

If true that is great. I hope Abilene wakes up some day and go with a more open system like p25. They say it is for security but hell even Dyess' new trunk system is p25, and mostly monitorable.

Can only hope they don't go the way of Ft Worth and go p25 but encrypt all PD...time will tell...Having provice on a system is almost like having encryption anyways, time will tell
