We have just added a new frequency to our trunking system of 867.2250 which is a birdie frequency on the Pro 96. Any ideas how to get rid of it? I don't have the problem on the Pro 2096. I have removed the antenna and still have problem.
Thanks Ed

Pro 96 Birdies

My pro 96 has birdies on 866.2125, 867.2125, 866.3125, and 867.3125. My feelings are they are nothing but radio shack Problems. I have been happy with the Pro 96, but the 2096 is fixing to be replace with a Uniden 996.

I have a similar issue on 857.9625 MHz. It happens everywhere on my Pro-96. I do not have this problem at all on my Uniden 396T. And no it is not interference from a nearby computer, cell phone, etc. This frequency happens to fall in the SAFE-T system and has made my Pro-96 unuseable for montioring SAFE-T in District #52 in Indianapolis.

FWIW, my Pro-96 did not do this until I had it for about a year. I probably need to send it in to be checked out. If it really is a birdie, I'm pretty much SOL I guess. It's too bad because otherwise the Pro-96 is a great scanner.

You will find that by changing antennas will change birdie freqs. I've done that several times over the past 40 years. Dosnt work every time but worth a try. If an 800 system has a #2 or #3 tower location then PGM for one of the other towers. Also using Control Ch only mode will take that freq out of the scanning loop until it is actually used. Remember to keep squelch at max position. These ideas may or maynot apply to your problem, but any and all ideas are worth something. Good Luck to all.

If you would use CC only, is the birdie still an issue?

Yes. Eventually some talk groups will use that frequency and once it stops there, it will stop scanning. It may even be intermittent. At least that has been my experience with my problem. What I don't understand is the intermittent whistling problem that goes along with it.

This won't help you now, but after the rebanding is done, the problem will disappear because 867.225 will be changed to 852.225.

RS Pro 96 Birdie

Thanks for the help, but I have removed the antenna, changed them to no avail. I use CC only in that bank and when it stops on 867.2250 then the problem starts. In looking in the RS booklet it does state that there is a birdie on 867.2250. I don't have the problem on the 396 and I do't have the problem on Pro 2096. I guess rebanding might solve the problem.

Birdies on Pro-96?

I checked the owner's manual and there are no birdies on 857.9625, which is where my problem is happening. Must be some other RF issue.
