sarnia PD voice inversion

hey all just thought id let everyone know that sarnia pd has gone with some sort of voice inversion. still picking up the mobiles just the base has inversion.

It is weird we where getting them before good and clear. Must be some new digital chip they are transmitting but yet there cars can hear them and we cant???
I don't want to buy another new scanner :roll:

That's what the people who submitted to the RR database are saying. What frequencies are these voice inversion signals being heard on?

Anyway, 1-way inversion is used, probably to save money (not sure exactly how it saves, unless they use encode-only and decode-only modules). All the juicy dispatch details would be scrambled, but that would leave record check info going the other way in the clear; hmm, unless they call it in over the phone...

Last reports I had was that it was APCO25.

I'll bet they've encrypted the dispatch side of things which might sound like speech inversion to somebody not familiar with digital encryption.

They are or where on APCO 25 because we could hear it before, And we can hear the cars replying back to them 142.245
So they got something new. It is real annoying to listen to I had to lock it out. There other 3 chanels are still OK

The Uniden scanners will flash ENC when it encounters an encrypted P25 signal. I'm guessing the P96 doesn't do this?

Nope, the PRO-96/2096 doesn't flash 'ENC'. On 3600 baud trunked systems, it skips over talkgroups that are using encryption. On 9600 baud systems, however, it locks on to them as there are no status bits on 9600 baud systems.

Sounds just like the Mich.State Police when they use encryption .
So that is what I would guess it is .
I also think the units can do the same , I heard a unit doing a radio check and he asked if it was in mode or not . Shortly after it all came back encrypted . :x :shock:

What type of sound do you here when it is so called encrypted. Is it donald duck martian sound. Humans speaking into a long hollow tunnel that is really tight in diamter. Voice Inversion can be used one way in a two way system. I have heard it before. But my guess is, it won't last long. The base radio console that Police use has the inversion program chip already installed. The mobile radios and portables have this capability already, just it hasn't been installed in them all. These radios the are manufactured are let s say ready set for encryption if bought that way or wanted to be added later , where cost is a factor. Encryption isn't cheap, and each radio must have the program to assimulate for to decrypt and encrypt and how to do it. It would go from the cheapest wish is regular voice inversion to rolling code inversion to DES digital encryption and other methods. Make sure you know its inversion first. Digital encryption is hard to crack.

Listening to Sarnia this morning , the units are encrypted and the base is in the clear .
It is encryption because the base told one of the units it was encrypted .
Seems to me they are working on setting the system up for encryption and are testing it .

I haven't been up to Sarnia in a long time, thinking about taking a trip that way soon just wondering if the Sarnia Pd is in the clear and could be picked up. Anybody from that area know.

Went to Sarnia last week took my scanner with me, it was terrible all the police frequencies were srammbled. Sounded like R2D2 and C3PO having a conversation. They must live there now. Anyway had to block the frequencies out as they were very annoying.

I will be going up to Sarnia to visit family this wknd and I will bring my DJ-X2000 Alinco scanner which can decode scrambled audio (Voice Inversion). That might shed smoe light as to whether or not it's V.I or not. I have a freq. in Windsor on LTR thats V.I and the scanner decodes that quite well so I know it works on V.I.
Will keep you posted.

yes that would be much appricated. seems all there freq are using some sort of inversion now.

Did anyone ever figure out if the signal was encrypted or inverted? Be a shame if this isn't solvable since this whole fiasco started only 2 months after getting my 296d.
