Can the sask RCMP still be heard or have the gone encrypted now ? My PSR 600 will be here next week and i'm hoping it won't just be a paper weight. Great site , my eyes get sore from all the reading...LOL

RCMP are not encrypted at this time. You will also be able to receive Prince Albert EMS and Fire Rescue as well as other EMS and Fire traffic.

I am new to scanning. I live in Northern sask, and understand that PelicanNarrows, Sandy Bay RCMP have gone digital. Now I am looking at purchasing a new scanner, any suggestions that will decode and pick up out here, or are the RCMP out here not able to be scanned anymore. I have an old scanner and it picks up air but no ground. Thanks for your help.

Depending on what you're going to be using the scanner for, I would recommend a Uniden series scanner. The Uniden BCD396XT is a digital capable handheld scanner that works very well on the system. Another option is the Uniden BCD996XT, which is the mobile/base version of the handheld. Both have advanced features which you can learn more about in the Uniden forum and on the Uniden website.

Uniden scanners have been found to work the best on the PPSTN -Saskatchewan P25 System. I would definitely recommend the purchase of one (or both!! lol) of those scanners.

I heard through the grapevine that they are getting ready to flip the encryption switch. They just upgraded all of the repeater sites to accept OTAR, and they will be implementing soon.

I'm putting up an antenna this weekend so I can get better range on the PPSTN -Saskatchewan P25 System. It works great in the city (Saskatoon) but I'd like to be able to listen further out of town.

You are right. It would defeat the purpose if it was.

I long for the days before digital and the MDT when ALL of it was out in the open with that clean sound of analog.

OTAR on this system would be a huge pain in the *** for a system that already has enough trouble with channel usage as is. Not sure how the techs figure this will work.

I hope not, it is the last LE agency I can listen to. There is a lot of good information on the frequencies even if it is talk about a semi roll over as I know what to avoid.

Other then some minor data on the control channel, there's no extra channel usage.

OTAR is quite simple once the back end equipment is in place.
