Does anyone know anything about the new radio system being implemented in rural Saskatchewan? Is it being changed to the digital system and if so, does anyone know what the frequencies will be?

Yes, it is APCO P25 digital compliant. The network is an EDACS P25 VHF trunked network. The frequencies are in the 138-140 MHz range. The control channel should be easy to pick up. The voice channels will be a little more difficult to find, since they are only active when a voice call is in progress, but can be found with some searching in the same range. It's being rolled out to the rural areas, but is not complete yet. Right now only the RCMP are on the network in the areas where it is operational. Sask Power is scheduled to move onto the network sometime later.

Having talked to a few people, I was under the impression that it was a "True P25" system, using P25 Trunking, not EDACS. Yes, the equipment is from MA/COM, but not EDACS.

Comments?

OOPS! My mistake! I meant to say "M/A-COM P25 trunked system". Scratch the word "EDACS". You are correct, it is not EDACS.

I guess I should proof read my posts before I send them. :)

Are those digital scanners legal?
Hi you can use any P-25 capable scanner : Radio Shack PRO-96 /Bearcat BCD396T/GRE PSR-500 and others out there to listen to the new system. These digital scanners are legal in Canada and I hope you buy one and we welcome you to join in with this forum for any help you may want with programing your new toy!

Hi to diamondc in S.W. Sask ! First things first we must find the frequencys in your location. Go to page #53 of your user manual , turn on the radio , it must be 10 feet or more from your P.C. to work properly! press SRCH until SR6 is in the top left of the display. Now go to page #58 1-2 and page #59 3-6 and enter 138.0000 for your lower limit and 144.0000 for you upper limit ! The control channel will be on all the time, push the arrow key each time it locks up on this channel . Use the pause key to hold when it stops on a voice channel , push pause again to continue your search until you get all the channels for you area. There may be only 2 or as many as 16 or more just make a note of each so you can enter them later. You must read the manual , take your time , understand how to use your new scanner .Do not get in a rush the learning curve is steep and many users become frustrated but it is time well spent. Good luck and thanks for joining in with this forum!

Hi to diamondec ! You may want to try asking about this in the Scanner Models Discussion Forum : Radio Shack Scanners . I have never seen my unit display show that. Is the radio locked push function then the light/lock key ! You could push function + L/OUT then CLR if a channel is locked out or use FUNC + 6 to clear all locked frequencies ! I hope this is of some help to you ! My PRO 96 is a very early production model and I know it is not the same as the new ones that have a little better CPU upgrade. I could have sent it to Radio Shack's HQ for the upgrade but just did not bother as it works well enough for me the way it is . Sorry if I'm of no help to you !
