Hi ve5jl,

Finally someone up in Saskatoon scanning. A couple of questions.......

1. When the SPS went back to digital mode, did the TG's remain the same?

The reason why I ask this is because the RPS here in Regina have backup analog TG's when they go into "fail soft mode" and are in the clear, then seperate ones when they talk digital. I always wondered if toon-town was set up the same way.

2. When SPS are in digital mode, are the comms encrypted?

Thanks for your reply in advance!

Regards,
Richster.

Richster,
I just had a quick question regarding RPS.
Do they go into fail soft mode often?
Or at all?
Thanks,
Colby

1. No, there are separate digital and analog talkgroups for the Saskatoon PD. The digital ones are listed in the database. The analog ones are also listed on the database as "old", which probably should more correctly say "analog backup".

2. No, most Saskatoon PD communications are not encrypted. If I recall some talkgroups (presumably for surveillance) were encrypted, but almost everything is clear voice digital.

The RPS system goes into failsoft once a week for a backup test. That's usually Wednesday mornings around 9 am, but the time and day can vary. The test is very short, only a few minutes.

Of course, if there is a failure it might go into failsoft. Hopefully that's not often. :) The system seems pretty reliable, failures don't seem to occur very often at all.

Thanks Rob, appreciate it! I'll get up to toon-town with Trunk88 one day yet.

I'll echo Rob's answer to colby's question with a slight addition.

The RPS did crash a couple of weeks ago, at about 3am. They were in fail soft mode and were using their backup analog TG's. That lasted until around 8am when the tech's resolved the problem.

To echo and concur with Rob's answer, the last time I ever noticed them in fail soft apart from the usual weekly tests was sometime in early 2008.

Regards,
Richster.
