Well, I actually had time today to put up my antenna and mast. I have a Diamond X200A 2m/70cm mounted on a 30' foot mast. I used 1 5/8" SS20. It's industrial top rail in the fence industry. Each section has a swaged end to allow for joining sections together. I used a 100' run of LMR 400 to the basement. Seems to be working great.
(Ignore the mess on the porch)

Installation looks great, and you'll really enjoy the X200A!

However, it appears from the pics that your home's electrical service entrance is too close to your antenna for comfort. That's definitely a safety 'red flag.'

That's better than what you can't see to the left. I had to way my options on that. I'd rather it fall into insulated service than un insulated primary. It's actually rather stout. If it were iffy. I would'nt have put it up.

is that black electrical tape holding the coax to the mast? If it is, prepare for some woes when it breaks down and allows the coax to flap.
I've not had good luck with fence rail. It 'seem's sturdy, but there's a softness to it that true masts seem to lack. Lets hope it was just my bad luck.

Those are actually black pvc ties. They look allot like what you may see on the hose of your car.Typical fence top rail is is pretty flimsy. What I used is a product from Allied Pipe and Tubing. http://www.alliedtube.com/pdf/ss20.pdf

no guys?

Hello!

I looked with an interested eye because i am planning on putting up something similar here at my QTH, but.... You didn't installed guys to help keep up and stable this long pipe? Or is it because the pictures were taken before the mast was guyed?

That picture was taken before the guys were installed. I can pull the entire mast straight up out of the pipe that is in the ground about 3 feet and lay it on the roof to work on the antenna or what not. There is another sleeve where the mast is attached at the top of porch roof which is basically a hinge.

You do have some guywires holding it up, don't you ?
I mean if you get a strong enough gust of wind it could
blow that mast over at the top and might cause it to touch
where you electricity is coming into your house and cause
some big time problems.

Hey I saw it around midnight last night and I was about to go sleep
it's really a good set up. I too get that way before I have had my
coffee in the morning.

If that mast folds over onto the powerlines, he's got bigger problems.
