Savannah/Chatham County merge

With the merge of Savannah and Chatham County police nearing completion, does anyone have any info if any talk group changes are in the works, or will they just keep using the Chatham County talk groups after the merge. Thanks.

Any talkgroup changes probably won't become clear until the
beginning of the year. What follows is purely a guess on my
part of what will happen. Based on news reports, the former
Chatham County PD areas are being organized into two new
precincts, which would be Precinct 5 and Precinct 6. My guess
is that these two new precincts will get their own set of channels
like what the former Savannah PD units have; see the SPD
talkgroups on this site at:

These might very possibly be A7, A8, and A9 which first
appeared active during the G-8 Summit this past summer.
Please keep in mind that I don't have anything except a
guess to back this up, but it fits the pattern of things that
are pre-existing. I'm further guessing that the former
Chatham Co. PD dispatch channels could be used by the
other municipal PDs that Chatham has dispatched for.

SPD TGs

I have noted a few changes. I was in the process of monitoring one evening when I noticed a few IDs that were new(at least to me). I think this was due to the merger.

The Chatham/Savannah 911 Center apparently went online today.
SCMPD unit callsigns, precinct organization, and precinct/channel
assignments have changed. A7, A8, and A9 have are being used,
but not how I expected them to be; the Precinct organization is
different.

More to follow in the next day or so.

callsigns that haven't been ID'd. Additionally there are a hodgepodge
of acronym callsigns as well as the obvious MARINE # and TRAFFIC

Those were the talkgroups PCTs 5 and 6 were using right after
the switch. I haven't checked since, although I have just switched
over to Law Enforcement stuff to check it out (I normally do not
monitor LE on a regular basis). Can you post which old CCPD
talkgroups they are using. I was suprised at the time that they
had two precincts on the same channel given the rest of the
channel layout they were using...

The digital switch was reported on the Scan Savannah group last
year. If I recall correctly, the version that was listed in the proposal
in the Savannah City Council Minutes was SmartZone 4.1.

Oh well, it was only a matter of time... Thanks for the update everyone. I had reset my Pro-93 on Sunday night and was in the process of updating TGs. Maybe it won't be so bad.

Today's monitoring of the Chatham-Savannah 800 system still has
PCT 6 units using A10, A11, and A12. In addition, Thunderbolt PD
(500 units) are using these TGs and A11 seems to be the primary
channel for Marine Patrol units.

The latest as I know it: police will NOT be going digital in the near future , except for some speciality units. This will allow them to communicate with surrounding municipalities. The fire dept. WILL be going digital, probally within 3 months.
