Saw the police chase I was listening to!!!!!!!!

It was the craziest thing. It was about 1:15am Apr 2nd (last night, I don't know we 're all in different time zones) I was monitoring and just about to go to bed when the call came out from Oak Grove the city just 3 miles west of where i was. They got into pursuit of a guy in stolen car that they knew ran a chop shop. They hit the highway east and was comin straight towards me. To my amazement they exited at my city and took the main road south which is almost exactly where I live. I ran outside to see the bad guy pullin a 360 in some gravel (the cop almost too) whippin up all kinds of dust could barely see and then takin off back to the highway where he bailed on the north outer road and went into foot pursuit. It was the coolest thing ever. I've seen one police chase before but to have one goin on right outside my house is CRAZY! Sorry guys I just had to tell somebody. You know how it is! :!: :shock: :shock:

Interesting.. It would be neat to see a car chase.

We have foot chases all the time, normally they are from drug stings. Car chases are pretty rare, the last one was tobias lee (wanted for two counts of murder, one rape and one armed robbery). I usually watch cops every saturday and that AMW looks familiar, i might have seen it when they put it out. There's nothing more awesome than listening to a police chase and then having it come almost to your door step. I was really freakin out. I don't ever have luck that good. Thankfully it was pretty late at night no one was out cuz they spun out in a gravel parking lot of a barbecue joint that is pretty busy during the day. My adrenaline was sure goin, I couldn't sit down for about 20min after that. Hearing it on the scanner is what thing but being right in the thick of things is another.

I had one the other night that started on the next street from me. Original call was for loud people near a suspicious vehicle (11:30pm). Vehicle left area prior to police arrival, cruisers found said vehicle, and stopped it. Upon approach of vehicle by officers, the vehicle took off. He looped the block and went right past my house with 3 cruisers hot on his tail, lights/sirens going, etc... They finally caught him after a brief foot chase in Cleveland after he ditched the vehicle.

The reason he ran? He was driving under suspension.

I only started getting into this hobby about 1 1/2 yrs ago. There's no other hobby quite like it. I don't ever want to give this up. If you're a good citizen with a respect for the law there's just nothing like listening to a whole bunch of good guys catching a whole bunch of bad guys.

It also helps when you know quite a few 'higher-ups' within the local Police & Fire Departments.

No doubt! I'm finishing up my B.A. in Psychology. When I finish I'm going straight into a M.A. in Psycholoical Behavioral Neuroscience. Nonetheless, I still would love to go into law enforcement. It's a bummer that law enforcement gets paid so poorly, especially with the fact that they are protecting our community and putting their a$$es on the line everyday....

I'm an EMT-B so I know a lot of people in the emergency medical field...they get paid a terrible amount. The work I do is volunteer because I love helping the community (and running code ), still, it's outrageous that the best people in the community (police officers, firefighters, and emergency medics) get paid the least.

My friend called me yesterday evening asking me if I had the Police Scanner on. She was almost hit by this truck that was in excess of 100mph on the freeway. Then six PD cars sped past her. She got lucky, several other cars were struck before this guy crashed.

He got peppered sprayed, then they let the K9 loose on him. Damn near ripped the guy's pants off!

San Diego Police Dept initialized the pursuit, then CHP took over. They attempted a spike strip at a toll plaza, but missed.

A man is behind bars Tuesday morning after leading police on a wild high speed chase.

It all started Monday on Mount Soledad, when the suspect refused to turn down the blaring music from his truck. After he threatened two men, police were called in and the suspect took off.

During the hour long chase, he crashed into several cars and nearly hit a pedestrian.

"He hit four of us here, clipped this mirror, hit mine, hit this guy here. He was behind me, I think. This is where it got him," said motorist Ken Moffatt.

The chase finally ended when the suspect's truck rammed a van on Eastbound 54 just west of Interstate-805.

The suspect was taken into custody, bloody with cuts to his face from several crashes and bite marks from the K-9.

Authorities say no one else was injured.

The reason he ran? He was driving under suspension.

If the Cleveland judges are as stupid as the NYC area judges, they'll really hit him hard for that one - they'll suspend his license.

We get license checks with pages and pages of active suspensions. It's funny (and frustrating) to hear the dispatcher ask the officer if he wants all the suspensions, the last page or just the last suspension. You'd think the judges would learn.

That doesn't sound so safe. If the guy is crazy enough to run from the police, theres no telling what he'll do :!: why don't you stay home, listen from the comfort of your easy chair and watch it on TV!? How dumb will you feel if he decides to turn down the street your on and he hits you? Its cool to see the action up close and in person, but somtimes you need to be smart about it. I Love to go to a certain Wendy's on fridays and saturdays to watch the Vice squad work. I can enjoy my square hamburger, and listen to the scanner. I don't have to worry too much about what a crazy prostitute is going to do :!:

Here is a situation you can ponder:

You race to an intersection to see the chase, the person being chased hits YOU and then turns around and SUES YOU for being there. Don't think it would happen? It already HAS in many places. How many times have you heard of the criminal SUCCESSFULLY suing someone who shoots them legitimately (on your own property). You think you are any more safe on someone else's property when you interfere with their 'rights'?

And if the police hit you, you can be charged with obstruction. Obstruction doesn't have to be intentional - it just means you 'got in the way' and if it's found out that you are only there too be close, it's not far to argue you were too close. A ten cent lawyer would have a field day with you (and a nice vacation).

Worst case, you get shot all because you wanted to see the guy running from the cops.

If you have no legitimate reason to be somewhere in the vicinity of a crime or a chase, DON'T GO THERE :!:

The only thing you will do is stereotype scanner enthusiasts as 'ambulance chasers'.

I've seen two chases since I've been back into the hobby.

The first was a short pursuit of a stolen vehicle late last year. I was getting onto Highway 67 from Interstate 8 when this car went flying past me doing well over 100 MPH. Just as I was thinking "I bet that guy gets a ticket soon" I look in my mirror and see an El Cajon unit rolling code right after this guy. The PD unit came up on the radio and said he was in pursuit of an occupied 10851. After a short chase the suspects bailed and were eventually caught just down my street.

About a month ago I saw another pursuit near Alpine, CA (east county in San Diego) on I-8. I was going eastbound and the chase was westbound with about 3 SO units following the vehicle. Unfortunately I never did hear the outcome since I was out of the car by the time it ended.

I have seen a few chases, listened to many chases and been involved in 1 chase. What a rush than to be sitting in the passanger seat of a roller that is chasing a bad guy.

My buddy works for a local law enforcement here in Salt Lake and we happen to be in the right place at the right time when a guy in a stolen car exited th freeway right in front of us after attempting to run down two UHP troopers and ramming their roller.

The chase lasted a total of 12 minutes that reached speeds of 110+ through residential, business parks and ended in a crash downtown. I can't discribe the feeling running through your body other than WOW :wink:

I just mention this because although you would think the cops just love stuff like this, they were really really pissed off.

Not coincidentally, that was also the night I decided it would be a good idea to give up drinking.

There's something called post chase rage syndrome or something where some cops get really pissed off after the chase. I saw this on one of those wild police chase shows one time. Thats probably why he was so pissed!!

I was driving West on I-80 in Des Moines and saw a 7 juridsiction chase coming at me....Scary thing was the cops chased him up an offramp and he was heading right for me in my lanes. Cops were spread our over all 3 lanes and made me take the ditch......You want to see pist? I had almost $2000 in damage to my car when i was forced off the road and they wont pay!!!
