hi i just got my first digital scanner.i am having trouble looking on the internet to find Palmetto P25 and Palmetto 800.i am very new to all these talk groups and all.i live in berkeley county and usually listen to them and goose creek.i have been told that berkeley county went to Palmetto 800 now.i was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on how to get the proper frequencies for all the charleston, berkeley and dorchester county police departments so i can work on programming them to my scanner.thank you for anyones help.i truly just know the basics of programming a regular scanner.i had a couple different channels for goose creek before.i had one other question.i have heard them tell each other switch to this other channel.i wasnt able to listen to them talk anymore.can anyone help explain what this other channel is they could of been talking on or is it like a trunk channel or something?thanks again for your help!

Click here: Palmetto 800 Trunking System, Various, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies

This is the listing for the Palmetto 800 system. About a quarter of the way down the page, you'll see a big table with sites and frequencies. Look first for Site #9 Charleston Co. This is a simulcast site, which means the frequencies for this "site" are transmitted simultaneously from several different physical locations, one of those locations being a tower very close to Goose Creek. You'll want to create a new TSYS object in the scanner (most people find using software is easier to navigate than programming via the radio front panel), set it as a MOT 800/900 type system, and enter the channels listed in the table for Site #9 that are colored red and blue.

Scroll down past the the site table and you'll get to the talkgroup sections. They're broken by agency and county/city. Scroll past the state agency listings, and the counties are listed in alphabetical order. Locate the Berkeley County listing. The numbers in the DEC column are the talkgroups you will enter into the scanner. You'll enter the the talkgroup number, and text description (called an Alpha-tag) and associate that talkgroup with one or more of the 22 scanlists in the radio. Scanlists are similar to banks in scanners you may be familiar with.

The details of this process are spelled out in the printed manual and also in online "easier to read" manuals that you might find helpful. But this Palmetto 800 listing, with site #9 frequencies and the Berkeley County talkgroup listing, is the information you need, along with the conventional channels listed on the Berkeley County database page. Keep in mind that Berkeley Co LE agencies are the only Public Safety agencies operating on Palmetto 800. Fire and EMS are still on VHF conventional. You can program both types of objects and associate them with the same scanlist(s).

I have a Win500 file for the Charleston/Berkeley/Dorchester area that I would be happy to send to you, if you have a programming cable. You can download a trial version of Win500 that will run for 30 days before it times out and you have to purchase a license for it - long enough to look at my file, edit it for your on interests, and upload it to the radio. Most folks find that they want to adjust their configurations over time, or make changes and radio systems change (such as the recent rebanding changes in SC) and that a license for Win500 (or one of the other software apps available) is a valuable tool.

Hope that helps.
