don't know exactly what the law is, but tons of cars with mobile and hand held scanners in the state including mine and my dads, shouldn't be a problem, carry mine into the mall and everything as well...

I've run mobile tunable and crystal one Ch monitors even before there were crystal control scanners. Never a problem. Several Hwy Patrolmen and sheriff officers in the upstate have either mobile scanners and/or portables. Just drive slow and monitor 170.245

The law in SC is that it's legal to have a scanner in your vehicle as long as you do not commit a crime while in possession of one.

I know that Florida is different, and requires a host of different things to be allowed to carry one. Luckilly I have a alarm contractor's license, which is acceptable. Sooooo.....the scanners go with me when I visit my parents. :D

So South Carolina scanner laws are like New Jersey's. You can have it in the car, as long as you are not comitting a crime with it. Thanks to all of
you for your answers.

Yea, you can listen to the wireless mic while he writes you a ticket. Sometimes they forget to turn them off and when I drive by the court house I can hear them in the court room. Very Clear.
