i'm looking at getting an sc230 as a race scanner, but would like to "dabble" in scanning outside of that. i don't plan on getting way into it or spending too much time scanning but would like to do it occasionally, so i was wondering if the sc230 is worth a damn outside of its race functionality. i know that trunking scanners are preferred for this, but as i said, i don't think i'll be getting "too" much into it and don't want to spend too much money, as i'm mainly getting in for racing.

mole351 Yes, it is worth alot outside of Nascar. With the SC230 you can listen to just about anything that isn't trunked except for Milair. This scanner was more designed for conventional listening then Racing. If you have more questions keep asking.

Wait for the BR330T to hit the shelves. It will be able to trunktrack and can use as a race scanner. 8) You can read up on it at the BR330T Thread

But I guess the SC230 would be okay to start on if you don't want trunking capabilities or don't need them. Check your area to see what you have, if it is mostly conventional freqs then the 230 would be great! If there are lots of trunked systems, the 330T would get you in on more action.
