Scan CB band with scanner or buy a CB with scanning ability?

I will be buying a CB and a scanner to mount in my pickup. Which is a better setup for me?

1. Buy a CB that comes with scanning capabilities, and a scanner that meets my basic scanning needs?

Or

2. A scanner (such as the PRO-2051 or BCT8) that scans the CB band in conjunction with a good antenna that scans a broader spectrum, and a cb that meets my basic needs?

The scanner will also be scanning trunked 800mhz and see some use at the 462-467mhz level (FRS). Obviously its the scanning of the CB channels that has some moderate importance to me so I want to best reception scanning those channels, but I also dont want to lose quality of the higher frequency channels.

1) No CB has or ever will scan police, fire, ems frequencies
2) Best to make sure that you have a license to carry the scanner in your vehicle otherwise it will be taken if you are ever stopped. Just something about Scanners and CB's that just dont match........

Of course, that depends on where he is and what he's doing if and when he's "stopped".

Having been there here is my $.02. Let your scanner be your scanner and your CB be seperate. If you try to scan CB with your scanner you will be constantly changing the squelch settings when you go through a high noise area or the skip starts rolling in. And when you get near a population center where there are a lot of CB users your scanner will become a single channel CB monitor stuck on the local channel of choice.

I say go with a CB and a scanner. You could get a half way decent CB antenna and a decent scanner antenna.

If you do any decent amount of highway driving or go on trips, I have to admit, it's nice having the CB when traffic all the sudden stops. You can get some quick information on what lane to get in and what is going on up the road from the truckers.

I was referring to the cb scanning only the cb band, I noticed a few of the lower end models had a scan mode on them. So if I leave all the scanning to the scanner, and I find one that scans 25-962mhz (I think those #'s are close), and get a decent antenna that covers that range, I should be good to go? I'm researching the best I can because I've noticed semi-conflicting reviews of the broad range antennas and how well the will receive one end of the spectrum but experience some less than great performance at the other end.

There's no antenna that's efficient on 27, 460 and 800 at the same time.

Get a CB that scans CB and connect it to a good CB antenna. (A 108 inch whip is about the best you can do in a mobile installation.)

Get a good scanner and connect it to a good scanner antenna.

Buy the good scanner and the scanning CB and use the CB only for CB scanning.
