Scan List Alpha Tag

I have a PSR-600 and the equivalent Radio Shack Pro 197. I have read conflicting comments in the forums regarding the display of the Scan List Alpha Tag when receiving conventional frequencies. Some say the GRE will alternate between the Scan List tag and the object alpha tag, others say that you can enter a Scan List alpha tag but it will never be seen. The Pro 197 DOES alternate between the two. Has anyone been able to do this with the GRE model?

Thanks- I thought that I had upgraded to the latest firmware but I guess I didn't.
