To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Scan Mode Issue

Hello. I have a XTL 2500 with two (2) individual QCII Call Lists and System Lists as we cover two (2) different municipalities with different A/B tone settings. What I activate the scan feature and scan between the two (2) dispatch frequencies, the monitor feature appears to open the channels to all radio traffic on those channels. I am looking for them to remain closed unless dispatch opens them but sending out our tones. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm not gonna say i am correct since I dont have a XTL, but how I do it, is I have to offset the PL/DPL on my set up, and set my QC decode to open the PL when it hears the tones

Course I do this on a conventional channel

My normal PL for the frequency is 156.7, so what should I set it to? Also, I have the Selective Call Decode box check in the personality with the unmute type set to “and.”

Off set it to anything but that. The only down side is you would have to set up a monitor toggle to listen normally or create a another personality for that with normal PL ...mine on my apx is set to decode and "OR" im not certain if mines wrong or yours is.. but thats what works my APX. like i said ive never had an XTL so im taking a shot in the dark as it works similar on all my other different models with call decode

By decode, you are referring to "and" "or" options? By tone hertz are you referring to the Tone A and Tone B for the individual agencies?

I have one personality programmed with one agency dispatch information linked to QCII System # 1 and QCII Call List # 1. I have another personality with the other agency dispatch information linked to QCII System # 2 and QCII Call List # 2. Both of these frequencies are in one zone with that zone set to the scan list.

It's weird and makes no sense that the scan option opens the radio frequencies by disregarding the programmed PL and then does not activate when the call drops.
