I've just released V3.6.0.0 of the Scan125 Control Program.

See Scan125 Control Program for details.

Only one new feature added specifically for Radio Reference UK users.

Couple of minor bug fixes.

No urgent need for everyone to upgrade.

Thanks for your interest Dale.

I would like to support many more scanners, receivers, etc. but in reality I can only give quality support etc. to those pieces of hardware that I actually own or are very very similar with. e.g. UBC125XLT and BC125AT.

As a non commercial concern I'm strictly limited to kit that I have personally purchased and own. In this respect all kit that I do own I have programmed for. HF150, IF150, DX-R8, U/BC125 series, 75 series, SR30C. Only exception is the Yaesu FTA-250 for which i can get no information from Yaesu about.

These are false positives by I assume Windows Defender.

You can make and exception in Defender. Rather tedious but should work. Also Defender has a reputation/use setting so if there are not many many downloads then it also complains.

What I advise is:

1) on the Scan125 page is check the Virus Total Link. This gives results and an SHA256 signature

2) I also publish the MD5 and SHA256 sigs on the Scan125 page

3) When you can get past defender check the sigs/hashs of the download ZIP file.

If all tally then you know you are safe / OK.

If you care to as well you can report the false positive to MS/Norton/Semantec or whoever is complaining. The more people that do so will hopefully kick these well meaning idiots into a little more respect for small developers.

Any problems with taming Defender then please let me know.

Regards

Nick

I'm afraid that most if not all AV programs do not favour small independent developers. Many want certificates which cost money, use cloud statistics, (say 4000 Scan125 Users vs X Million other major league programs), etc.

I've tried many attempts to make my software AV friendly, I and others have reported false positives to MS (and others) but we seem to be getting nowhere.

My concern is for my users. I do not want them to turn off their AV programs as this would open the door to genuine malicious software. Making exceptions (based on program hash and virus total etc) can be done but I always recommend that once you have made and exception, download and installed, then you should remove the exception. If the AV program still complains then you can re-enable the exception but remember to remove the exception when a new Scan125 release is available. Sadly a "whack a mole" game.

Lastly I ask users to report false positive to their AV provider. Only that way (if the respond) will life be made more easy for all of us.
