Scancat problem

I bought the Scancat hardware, stuck the disk in the computer and plugged the cable in the USB port. I cannot put the USB hardware manually in a driver. It automatically assigns itself. I try going through the control panel and going that route...no workie. I also do not get the Scancat window or a short cut to open it. In fact, I cannot even find it.

'Scancat hardware'?? No such thing AFAIK. RS does sell their 20-047 USB cable, though. For many RS and GRE models that's the way to go. Be sure you get the latest drivers from the website.

Don't ever use Scancat software unless you have no other choice. There are many better programs out there, some of them are even free. What radio are you trying to use? We have 2 articles in our wiki that outline much better choices. The links are below

Scancat IS THE problem ditch it & use one of the freee 30 day trials of s/w for your radio

OK. Everything is cool now. I had previously spoken to an RS associate that told me the cable disk was Scancat included. This was my problem all along. Went to RS in town and had the scanner programmed from there and was told to go on line and use WIN 97 with the cable for any further adjustments.

Very good. Now do yourself a favor - get on the Texas forum, or join the Scan DFW Yahoo group and see if you can get files. Be sure to specify that you have Win97 and are programming a PRO-163. That's very important information. Alternately, get a premium subscription (link below) and download data directly from our database.
